somehow that doesn't make me feel any better. lester was horrible yesterday, and Valentine left him in there on purpose i think i say they should develop some kind of injury to either him or beckett and let morales take the place in the rotation I wonder if one of them goes to the cubs for garza

Atlanta was looking at Lester, I think

he seems a little pricey for them though. Especially since they have tons of pitching to choose from in the minors

beckett or lester?

nah they'd go for that if we were contending but were rebuilding and want future stars..probably get a bunch of triple A kids for either Demp or Garza..or both

lester was born in "84, he's 27 going on 28, beckett is i believe 30 or 31. we are looking at garza, but they will need to add some sand to the pitchers mound to absorb all the damn spit speaking of the itchers mound apparently right after the game yesterday they tore up the pitcher's mound and are rebuilding it. yeah, that was the problem with lester, the mound wasn't quite right. he's throwing pitches right down the pipe and the hitters are mashing him, but it's the mound's fault

As bad as they have been, I would rather have them than Garza, Reports have the Dodgers as the favorites to land him anyhow.

geez things change fast i just heard yesterday that the Sox were the favorites to get him
It won't matter if they can't get beckett and lester to pitch better you can't keep having those guys stinking up the park every time they go out and expect to win anything

Great 9th inning comeback last night. I went to bed so I didn't see it of course.

Howard and Utley homered back to back in the first and had a part in the walk-off

I don't even want to think where we'd be if we had them all season :|

we're still about 10 games under .500 and about that out of the WC, 13 or so from the division. not mathematically out of it.

I remember thinking that if we sweep the Brewers, then we'd be 8 out and from there its a hop, skip and a jump to being right back in it.

The Cards were 10 out at the end of Aug last year so there's definitely time if they can get their act together NOW.

The Marlins have conceded already so we should overtake them. Plus the Mets are starting to flounder a little.

I don't want to finish in last place 36

I thought the same thing too yesterday, that he still can't speak English.

So we've gotten rid of Lyons, Carpenter, and Myers in the last few days. Lyons and Meyers I can understand, but when are we going to stick to some young pitchers like Carpenter and try and build around them?

Phillies To Extend Cole Hamels
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [July 25 at 7:25am CST]

The Phillies have agreed to sign Cole Hamels to a six-year contract extension worth a little more than $140MM, ESPN.com's Buster Olney reports (on Twitter). The deal, which is pending a physical, will be the second-largest contract ever for a pitcher, trailing only C.C. Sabathia's seven-year, $161MM contract. Hamels will obtain $144MM over six years for an average annual value of $24MM, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports (on Twitter).

Yes, it is a risk but sometimes you have to take a risk. He's only 28 and has been getting better every year. Its going to be tricky to stay under the luxury tax but the money itself isn't an issue. We still sell out every game and are expecting a monster TV contract in 2015.

He's a home grown Phillie - and now he always will be. heart2

There may have been a revolt if they let him go.

weren't at least a couple of them around when you won the WS?

Its true that it doesn't always work out - Howard's contract will be debated for ages (although I can argue that without him, we don't even win the division, this season is case in point)
