OK, I expected more of big bang theatrical moment somewhere, since JJ Abrams was involved. But that is just me, hoping. :)
Why on earth, did the batteries stop working? They have nothing to do with electrical power? That is what batteries are for, when the power goes out.
I have an idea/theory who is on the other computer that, that lady was talking to. But I won't say just yet.

I liked it too, i'm willing to wait to see if they ever explain why the batteries don't work, why the rifles are muzzleloaders but the "I'm On a Horse" guy has a pistol that works, and how Charlie manages to have a designer leather outfit that looks like she just picked it up at kohl's before the day started

To me, the pilot was a bit busy. By that I mean it seemed like they were trying too hard to grab your attention and keep it. I would like to see a flashback style ala Lost, and hope they go for character development rather than ninja style fight scenes. Keep the reveals keeping us on the edge of our seats. I know they have to grab viewership, but a good story keeps me more interested than a click of superheroes.

Some of the fans are saying solar flare. But, that's not it.
I am guessing a group of scientists (maybe working for the military) invented a way to shut down anything using electricity, unless you had what they had created to block it. Similar to the book The Trigger by Arthur C. Clarke. Does not explain why you could not use a diesel engine though....

lol, yeah, I thought that as well, Charlie and others were extremely well dressed for people who have not had access to a store, in a long time.
Yeah, the militia people are way better equipped then the people living in villages.
I like that, I'm on a Horse Guy, that will be his name, until, I know it will be picked up.
Why did the older dude, in AC/DC shirt, not give Charlie, or hot uncle Miles the pendant (?)

I agree, someone on FB, said it should have been a 2 hour premiere, and we get a bit more background on the characters.

I agree with you, about the scientists and or military, Miles "friend" (Morgan) only had to show his tattoo/scar to the guard gate, and he was allowed onto the base. Kinda suspect to me.
The lady in the attic, contacting someone else, on a computer via the "pendant" thingy. I think she is in contact with Charlies mom. (lol I wrote Juliette and then fixed it)

LOL, you just want to see her boobs.
The writers/who ever made up this show, say it was not a solar flare (EMP), so what could happen that would disable, electronics, batteries, and vehicles that do not have computer chips in them?
From what I have read, an EMP, would not effect vehicles that did not have computer chips in them, to include older tractors and cars (that are still on the road today)
I really hope they give us a reason for batteries not working, cause that bugs the hell out of me.

even on Gilligans Island the professor was able to re-charge batteries, without electricity.
LOL, we are so picky, I suspended belief when it came to things that happened on LOST, but I will nit pick a new show.

As far as the engines not working, Eric says that the physicist he consulted with says the premise is possible. So, whatever it is, apparently it could really happen.
In the article, as far as what does not work, Eric says:
“Anything that throws a spark, any circuit that carries an electrical charge…. That’s the simple, clean rule,” said Kripke. “That means batteries and spark plugs, engines….”

No spark plugs in a diesel. No circuits, No batteries needed if you have a standard shift. Just compression.

Here's a comment from the consulting physicist:
The “Revolution” writers did call on the physicist David Saltzberg, a consultant on the CBS sitcom “The Big Bang Theory,” scientifically to assess their secret rationale for the blackout. According to Mr. Kripke, Mr. Saltzberg told them the plot “is absolutely possible” and called it “amazing.” Mr. Saltzberg declined an interview request.

I agreee, when he came into the house in the beginning, she definitely knew what was going on, she said, it's happening,or it's starting, so she knows what was going on. i think she took off when the kids were young on purpose to make sure they were split up and that they wouldn't be caught togehter.

Yes! I think/hope she is still around.
So, what kind of event would have to happen, to prevent batteries from working?
I did a quick search, and no where did I find a reason for batteries to stop working, except for if they got wet, or run down (over used, or not used at all) batteries have a shelf live. For them to stop working, is really confusing me. And, since, I cannot find a reason, bugging the crap out of me. It does not make sense.
And to stop combustional (sp) engines from working. In the event of an EMP, they would still work.
