This is the End

hilarious. loved every minute of it. i love apocalypse and disaster films -and this one was awesome and hilarious and even realistic with how real people would handle something like this - even if it was meant to be funny.

2 thumbs up!

Right now I'm watching Lincoln and finding it a little boring.

The other week I tried to watch that wizard of oz prequel and couldn't even make it thru half.

I thought the acting was really good, but the story a little dry.

but DDL, was worthy of his oscar in it and Tommy lee Jones played a great part as well

I watched Mindhunters the other day. Its a few years old but it had Val Kilmer, LL Cool J and Jonny Lee Miller. It was pretty good. Its about a killer loose in an FBI training island.

Saving Mr. Banks

If Mary Poppins was a solid piece of your childhood, and you can sing any song in the film, you absolutely HAVE to see this movie. it was incredible.

Yes, I don't know why she isn't grinding out stories set in the Harry Potter world, it's a cash cow, and people would love to read more from that world, whether it's the Founding four or prequels focusing on James and Lilly

Marrowbone, 6/10 - slow moving thriller. The ending is interesting although you may see it coming before the reveal.

Molly's Game, 7/10 - Based on the true story of an Olympic athlete cum high stakes poker game runner. With Jessica Chastain in the lead role and Idris Elba in support, you cannot go wrong.

The Death Of Stalin, 7/10, Rent worthy- Fun movie about the political aftermath following Stalin's death. The title of the movie is so on the nose that it caught me off guard. Surely, I thought, it must be a metaphor. Nope. This film is literally about the death of Stalin. The characters in the power vacuum left after Stalin's demise are portrayed as caricatures of themselves, making this a an enjoyable little romp with some rather disturbing undertones.

The Vanishing of Sydney Hall, 6/10, Cable worthy - Slow moving character study about a writer who experiences tragedy as a third party teenager. Film flashes back and forth throughout his life in the style of a made for tv movie. The story and acting are excellent but it takes too long for it to develop when considering the final payoff is just kind of meh.

In a Valley of Violence: this flick is a total surprise. It's a funny yet intelligent Western. Yes there are some parts you may roll your eyes at, but the actions the characters take all make logical sense. And if you're a fan of Ti West's work, you'll definitely see his humor in the writing. 8/10

Backcountry: another surprise for me, just ran across it looking for woods survival horror stuff. it's not a horror, just a woods survival. THIS WILL MESS YOU UP IF YOU LIKE CAMPING. One scene I can't put out of my head, you'll know it if you see it. The movie's eh so-so up until this scene, then whammo it is ROUGH. Good watch but not if you are easily disquieted. 7/10, esp considering it is really a low budget flick - they did great with the budget they had. Leonardo Dicaprio, eh thinking way less of your scene (similar) now.

IKR? covenant i enjoyed, yeah yeah surviving etc. but man, backcountry....it just bothered me awhile. if a movie bothers me, it gets points for getting into my stupid movie head. it's hard finding unsettling movies now, but man that got there.

Even more unnerving is that it is a true story except in reality the outcome of the two main characters is reversed.

I'm not a camper and I wouldn't be going into the back country around here
every year people go missing either skiing or hiking in the back country some never to be seen again so easy to get lost and they usually are ill equipped or by themselves

Wolf Creek was pretty darn unsettling too. Both are very good films but other than the facts that they're both based on true stories and that horrific tragedy befalls the main characters, they're quite different.

lol ok guys. if we're discussing unsettling, go for Martyrs. I've read the reasoning on the story, but it is still mighty effed up.

Annihilation: I was hearing good things about this, so gave it a shot. eh...it is ok, didn't knock my socks off. The story is ok, but MAN you can so feel they are PUSHING that message into you that they want you to know. Effects again ok, no sock knocking. I like Natalie P but she did not work very hard on this one IMO.

Annihilation, 7/10, Dollar Theater Worthy - Sci-fi film with a very intriguing concept. Kept me glued to the screen, which says a lot since there's currently 3 movies (Red Sparrow, Jumanji 2, The Unseen) I'm part way through of which I have little ambition to start watching again.

Acting in general is marginal but Natalie Portman is always on point. The ending is dumb. Reminded me of how the mystery of Smokey from lost was eventually explained. It's different than that but it's the same kind of wtf value... all this fantastic build up for that? SMH.

However, the concept, and atmosphere, and visual effects are enough to make this a very watchable film. It may stay with you.
