The Phillies have reached agreement on a two-year deal with free agent outfielder Marlon Byrd, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (via Twitter). The deal was first reported by Michael Barkann of WIP. Financial terms of the deal are not yet known.

He doesn't help us get younger, but he bats RH and "crushed" lefties last year. Hopefully he can repeat that to some extent.

I knew we weren't going to sign any "big" guys so I guess this is a take a chance signing. I'd like to see us go after a Garza or Jimenez or a pitcher of that caliber though.

two year deal, if he helps it's great, if he doesn't work out, you aren't stuck with him forever.

I'm interested in what they do with salty, and napoli.

I think drew is gone, and I would be floored if Ellsbury wasn't also.

I really hope they do not sign Piersynski, too old we already have an older catcher, we need somebody to catch 100 games plus, with ross doing thwe rest until the youngens get up.

Napoli, well we sure could use his bat, but if they don't sign him, probably nava goes to first base, and we work on solidifying the outdfield

I think Napoli will be back, I think they try for McCann at catcher

to me he's too expensive, and will want more years than they should give him

you could sign salty for half that money for 2-3 years, and have the kids hopefully take over from there, swihart and vasquez are very promising young catchers, ready in a year, 2 at most.

why spend that much money on a catcher when you could get a completely serviceable one in salty for half the money

only $8 mil/season

not too bad, we still have Ruf as a backup for the OF and 1B

he could be a good fit in Boston - catch until Papi retires, then move into the DH role.

he's gonna be looking for 18 plus a year, for 3-4 years probably, I think he is too expensive

I think 3-4 years is low too.

that's what knocks us out of most of the available players. We already have a couple $100mil contracts to work around.

oh well, I can't complain. I was all for those signings at the time.

I keep wondering who is going to pay all these large salaries - everyone is looking for these huge contracts and the Phillies are out, Boston seems to be out, the Yankees are trying to get their payroll down and LA just figured out that you can't buy a championship. Even Detroit has a fair amount on the books. I can't wait to see who lands Ellsbury, Choo, etc......

someone will, they always do, I think LA has another couple of huge contracvts left in them, and I think the sox will do it for the right player, they signed pedey to 100 million contract already so they will do it if they think it justified.

personally, I would offer ellsbury maybe 110 million over 5 years, 22 million a year is more than he is worth but someone will pay him at least that

I would love Ells to stay, but I like the idea of Bradley waiting in the wings if needed.

rumor has it that the Rockies offered Ruiz 2 yr/$20 mil

I would say that we're looking for a different catcher. We only paid him $5mil last year.

and now it says that the Rox did not make that offer.

I hope it wasn't us - that's a lot. He does miss some time during the season.

Francona over farrell for manager of the year.

I know Tito did a great job in Cleveland, just think Farrell did a better job in turning the Sox around.

Oh well farrell can be nostalgic about it as he stares at his ginormous world series ring on his finger

The Sox never get any love, Farrell should have been the clear cut winner, even if they didn't win the World Series.

Chooooch - resigned for 3 years and a 4th year option. Looks like for 8.5 million per year, half that for the 4th year if the option is picked up.

I had a feeling they would, they don't like to move on from popular players.

This shouldn't be too bad of a signing though - he's as clutch a player as we've had and the pitchers love him. We still have a lot of younger guys who like to throw in the dirt so his blocking skills will be put to good use.
