How much does Papi make as a DH?
12 or 13 million, and he is the best DH ever.

I hope they extend his contract for another year or two, i don't care if he is 38, all he has done for the last 11 years is get up hit the ball, and go sit back down, he can do that when he's 40, let's see cano play second, when he's 40, or ells steal 50 bases when he's 38, never happen.

the reason papi can still hit is because it's all he does, the rigors of playing the field haven't aged his body

that's the point I was going to make.

The Yanks also lost Granderson. to the Mets :O that one really shocks me. 4 year, $60 million I think is the figure.

How is it that these .259 or under hitters are getting these contracts? Is that good now? That's about what Howard does when he's healthy.

Mujica stepped up big time with Motte going down. He was our closer most of the season until August/September when he started shutting down. Then we went with Rosenthal. I really liked Mujica and he came through in a big way, we wouldn't have gotten to the playoffs without him. So treat him well. :x

they will, he'll be an 8th inning guy i'm sure to start, with a real chance at the closer if uehara comes back down to earth, which i am kinda expecting.

he was a reasonbly priced reliever that looks like he throws alot of strikes, which should help our bullpen.

I'm sure he'll be treated well, he went from one team with a winning tradition to another, and should fit in pretty well

And Beltran to the Stankees, looks like he will still be searching for that elusive ring.

The Yankees have spent over $300 million so far. And they have too many DH's already.

This off season has been crazy so far. I'm surprised so many of the bigger guys signed already.

i was hoping he'd go to the Royals. Of course he's still searching for that ring, but I don't think the Yanks are the team that's gonna get him there....not next year anyway...

I don't get why teams are still willing to give those ginormous contracts. Ridiculous.

If the Yanks were gonna throw that kind of money at someone they should have just kept Cano and let Ells sign elsewhere

that's what I sdaid, I knew they were gonna throw money at every free agent out there, but not signing Cano and signing players that aren't as good to multi year over priced contracts is not the way to go

I can see signing a player to a multi year contract , like pedey, if he's the heart and soul of a team, even signing a few free agents to fill holes in an otherwise younger line up, but just trying to sign every free agent out there to build a team doesn't usually work too well.

apparently we're shopping Dom Brown, Cliff Lee and Cole Hamels.

 dramatic

Not Hamels - that's like giving up on the next couple of years.

I'm not sure about Brown. On one hand this is the time to sell high on him. On the other, he's our lone source of power (until I see Howard hit a bomb that is). We also don't have anyone in our system to take his place, nor is there a lot out there on the market.

It wouldn't be trading season if Cliff wasn't mentioned coffee

In the lets give Red Sox nation a reason to laugh category, its starting to sound like the Phillies are DESPERATE to get rid of Papelbon; to the point of paying up to 50% of his remaining salary.

facepalm

the Yankees need a closer don't they?? you could probably convince them to sign him for another 5 years and give him a raise, and give you part of his salary to take him

did they? He was good for you when he was there though, right?

I know when we signed him, it was between him and Madson (at least for us). Signing Madson would've been a bigger disaster as he hasn't pitched since he was with us.

he was under team control until he signed with the Phillies, they didn't have to sign him to anything more than a year, and he made it known he was gonna go get as much money as the market would allow as soon as he could.

Yea, he signed 1 yr deals for like 2 or 3 seasons after his initial contract was up, he was great with the Sox until his last season.
