so apparently the Phillies accused two draft picks of using agents and now we'll never sign a draft pick again since agents will be boycotting them. Great since our system is void of prospects. :|

Aren't draft picks allowed to have agents?

I guess draft picks aren't allowed to use any type of advisor (but its common anyway). Anyway, two of our picks decided to stay in school and didn't sign and the Phillies reported them; sounding remarkably like sour grapes. Here's a link to what I read. Sounds like they screwed themselves big time.

that won't work, if the player wants to sign with the philies the agents will talk.

It sounds like they violated NCAA rules becasue they were in college at the time, and college players aren't allowed to have dealings with agents.

just one of a hundred stupid rules for the NCAA.

If a player is going to leave school to play pro sports, shouldn't he be entitled to having someone represent him other than his aunt Ruth??

i know there have been problems with agents enticing players to sign on with them, but if they have rules set up shouldn't the rules be the agents can't give them money and other perks and not that a player who needs to be represented in what can be a complicated system not have access to it?/

yes, it does sound like they violated the rules but it also sounds like this happens all the time. I'm sure the Phils are upset since its been a while since they had high draft picks and when they don't end up signing then they get nothing (or do they get a compensatory pick later?)

I thought it sounded vindictive of them to turn them in, plus they haven't commented on it which makes them look worse. I guess there's more to the story - usually is.

33 days until the Red Sox defense of their championship starts in baltimore.

I hopedafuck it warms up some by then.

Friday morning it's supposed to be single digits with a 40 MPH wind  :cold:

I still have over a foot of snow in my yard even after a few days of 50 degrees and rain, I bet i got 40 lbs of dog crap to pick up when I can finally get out to see it.

we got a dusting today that is already gone

but I just saw something from our weatherman that says he "doesn't like what he's seeing for Sunday through Tuesday"  cry

Our new "groundball" pitcher Roberto Hernandez gave up a HR and two high off the wall doubles. Not a great start.

I am waiting, not so sure about the patiently part.

I would like to see them be a little better in Spring training, but I know it don't mean anything either.

bogaerts has been tearing the cover off though this spring

cubs prospects are doing awesome...we might actually be good in 2015/16 time frame...watch out for Soler and Baez...move Castro to third or second as we have a 3rd basemen up and coming as well...and theyre all cheap for now...sign a couple big free agents when the time is right and make that damn run :)

all of our pitchers are getting rocked so far, and the defense has been spotty at best.
Spring training means very little, especially with an experienced ( read geriatric in Philly) team

The geriatrics are starting to hit a little- a couple more home runs are starting to come

But hamels is a MAJOR concern. He says he's not hurt and I hope he's not lying. If it takes until may then so be it but any longer and were screwed

Prospect Javier Baez still playin in place of Starlin has seen three pitches in his first 3 at bats and has hit 3 homers in those at bats....BRING HIM UP! for Godssake......hes 21 or 23 i think..the cubs always wait too damn long and are terrified of bringing up younger players..leave them in triple A a few years too long every time...move starlin and his errors over to third or second and let Javier have his shine at short...trade Darwin Barney damit

still just spring training, last year jackie bradley Jr hit over .400 in ST.

I was was on the add him to the roster bandwagon, but he hit .179 in real games.

to me , as long as the players can manage to get to April, have the bubble wrap torn off and be able to play, I'm happy, then we'll see what teams have what talent.
