tongue   For Clarke

The Phil's have decided to keep scrap heap pick up Jerome Williams. Not a bad signing actually.  He's cheap and our pitching staff is a little thin in the starter department.  His career numbers aren't great but he did pretty well for us last season which he thanks chooch for.

I hope this means they'll let Kendrick go to free agency.  It's just time to move on from his roller coaster.

So we are keeping Grady Sizemore for another year . He did better than dom brown. I'm guessing he's either the 4th outfielder or insurance if they trade someone.

I just saw that and gasped out loud. By all accounts he seemed to love it there.

He has to have some kind of offer on the table somewhere.

He was close to the gm, who I think the Rays fired so he chose to leave as well, I think he will go to the Cubs

he needs a place where he can ride his bike to work, I wouldn't ride a bike in chicago unless it was armor plated and had a mini gun attached to it

Aj Burnett declined his option so we are free from his $12 mil salary next year.  Good riddance to him and his walks.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/report--marlins-offering-giancarlo-stanton-record--300m-contract-232712805.html

not sure if this will end up happening but if it does....wow, JUST wow.
first off, it's the marlins, and he would be stranded there for his entire productive career
second it's the marlins and he would be stranded there for his entire career

I can see them wanting to keep him, but....it's the marlins and he would be stranded there for his entire productive career

I would say bahhston, but there is no way NOWAY, they are gonna sign anyone to a 12 year contract for 300 million

i'll be happy if they sign a couple of decent pitchers to 4-5 year deals and take our chances with a few other parts here and there

I'm not sure anyone is worth that kind of money - and he has an injury history.

He wants both a no-trade and an opt-out clause.

I don't get the opt-out either - I mean we're already at the $30 MILLION/SEASON mark - how much more can there possibly be?

Stanton is great but you don't win with one guy - a hard lesson that I hope we've learned.

Shall we start betting on when they trade him?

he'll stay there a couple of years, then opt out of his contract and then someone else will sign him for another 300 million.

Or he'll get hurt and the Marlins will be on the hook for a part time pinch hitter - if that.

I don't think he's played a full season yet.

I'm hearing we're pushing a Hamels trade to Boston. I'm nervous as the Phils aren't known for getting the most bang for their buck with trades.

Marlins, Giancarlo Stanton Agree To 13-Year, $325MM Contract
By Mark Polishuk [November 17, 2014 at 9:11am CST]

The Marlins and slugger Giancarlo Stanton are in agreement on a record-setting 13-year, $325MM contract extension, CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman reports. While the deal hasn’t yet been made official, Heyman reports that a press conference should be held later this week and “there is a clear understanding the deal will be finalized.

curious the Atlanta would trade Heyward when they need offense. And for a pitcher - last I knew their system was stocked with pitchers.

JJ - what do you think? You lost Shelby Miller in this deal.

or 3rd base - if he wants to move there.

He may have a better attitude now that he's not on the Marlins

at least your team is doing something - mine had one target and I'm hearing their backing off now. We're going to parade the same exact team out there - minus Hamels probably Mad

Reports are the Sox have signed Sandoval as well, His weight concerns me. I only want Lester back, I will trust the front office because they dont normally miss on free agents, we will see.

so if they sign panda and ramirez, it would appear that bogarts would be trade bait for someone, panda at third, hanley at shortstop and where would bogarts play. still not sure i like these deals, especially if they dump another 90 million on the panda, and not one pitcher signed.

Lester to the Cubs, 6 yrs-155 million. Congrats Derek, you've got a new Ace. It's sad to see Jon go, I guess all of the Sox efforts will now turn to Scherzer, probably try to acquire Hamels as well.

why would they pay for Hamels when they wouldn't pay for Lester though?

I still have mixed feelings about trading him - that's the only move we have to make but the Phils don't have a great track record in getting decent prospects back.

I can see the Dodger being desperate enough to trade the farm for Hamels though.

The Red Sox have Clay Bucholz as a Starter, and he is it, they now have to pay or else it will be a 100 loss season. They were the other team in contention for Lester, but they weren't going to offer 6 years for a 31 year old pitcher(understandably). Now they will have to overpay Scherzer and sell the farm if they have to for Hamels.

its a good signing - even if he breaks down at the end you should get most of your money's worth

maybe the Cubs will still go after Hamels

that would be quite a 1-2 punch

I didn't realize you were down to Buckolz only.

isn't James Shields also out there? They don't necessarily need to overpay for someone.

do you have OF prospects? I think that's really the only thing they want for Hamels. We don't need middle infield, our bullpen is good (as long as they don't do anything stupid like trade one of them).

Boston is overloaded at OF, I don't want James Shields, he is not a big time pitcher, he's a 3 or 4 starter at best. If they can sign Scherzer he would be 1, trade for Hamels and he would be 2. Bucholz would be 3 and then maybe bring 2 guys up for 4 and 5.

I highly doubt that they will go after scherzer, he's gonna want 170 at least.
they will trade for a couple of pitchers, maybe james shields will come, but they won't pay scherzer if they weren't gonna pay lester.

we will see, but I am not surprised he didn't re-sign. if, by some miracle he manages to win a WS with the cubs, that will look pretty good on his resume and be something to be proud of fer sher

Absolutely, he would be the only person ever to win a World Series with the Cubs and Sox, but I think the Cubs still need to add some pieces.
