Thank GOD the first round is over - now we can stop speculating on Mariota. And glad the deal didn't get done - Chip offered half the team for him.

jamies winston tweeted a pic of himself with a Bucs jersey on after he was picked.....next to a plate of crablegs facepalm

so much for not making the draft all about him. He may turn into a good quarterback, but I think he has just as much of a chance to turn into a ryan leaf or jamarcus russell

I think the suspension was too harsh. If he had lost the game and gone home to beat the shit out of Gisele he would've only gotten a 2 game suspension. And then only if a video surfaced showing it :|

The NFL needs to seriously look at what message they're sending if they are saying this is about "integrity of the game".

They just need to take handling the balls out of the teams hands, why isn't anyone saying anything about the officials, they handle the ball on every play, they never noticed anything was wrong?

I can see where it might be kind of hard to catch for a ref. They usually toss it underhand to the line judge and are dealing with getting everything ready before the next play. They don't usually grip it the way QB's do. I can see how a ref might miss it being a bit underflated. Brady would notice it, a ref might not.

i think it was too harsh too, there were alot of holes in a report that was supposed to uncover everything. also, no way i would have given them my phone either to look at. To me even if the equipment manager did deflate the balls, which they never really proved, then the equipment manager should be fired and the team fined, but without any type of actual proof that brady explicitly told the manager to let air out of the balls after they were tested then how in the world can they justify a 4 game suspension. also, the report specifically says the team and belichek had no knowledge of it happening, if it even did, so how do you fine the team a million bucks and take away draft picks. he'll fight it and get it reduced but to me the punishment was for being arrogant and not letting them look at his phone not for anything he did other than that because if they had any proof of A. that the balls had air taken out before the game but after the inspection and
2. the Brady was the one who told them to take the balls after they were inspected and let air out of them. they would have incl;uded it in the report.

just for the record, I am not a pats fan, and really don't care one way or the other. I do hope that garrapolo wins all the games he plays in and they can flip off Goodell he sucks as far as I'm concerned.

tongue
also he can cross Bob Kraft off the christmas card list for this year

more likely to me is Brady told them I want my footballs at 12.5, that's how I want them, make sure that's where they are, not to take them after the inspection and let air out of them to be below the limit, just that he wanted them as low as the rules allow

I was listening to a local sports show yesterday - I'm not sure if this was truth or if he was being an ass - but the refs in that game all had prior injuries and couldn't feel the ball?

I tend to agree that if it was anyone other than the Pats this wouldn't be such a controversy. How much benefit do you actually get from it? The destroyed the other team - no way because of a football's PSI

that's what i mean, if it was that important, then why not, ohhh I don't know, WRITE THE DAMN PRESSURE OF THE BALLS DOWN WHEN YOU CHECK THEM AND THEN NOT LET THE TEAMS HANDLE THEM AFTER THAT AND HAVE AN NFL FLUNKY GIVE THE REF A BALL WHEN THEY NEED ONE??????

To be fair, they offered to let Brady's agent hold his phone and HE look through it and say whether there is anything responsive to their request, ie texts from anyone in the Pats organization regarding the deflating of balls, and they will take HIS word for it if he says there isn't, and they still declined.

I've always been a big Brady fan, I think the guy is one of the best EVER, and I don't hate the Pats. That said I think the suspension is fair. He had to have known, there is NO WAY some low level ball guy is going to take it upon himself to go to the bathroom AFTER the refs checked the air pressure and let out air all on his own. It is in NO WAY conceivable that was done without at least Brady knowing about it, if not with his consent.

I'm not sure if they nailed down that they really were under inflated. They did the measurements after the fact with two different gauges and came up with different answers on all of them. I'll try to remember to look up where I saw that. At this point there's so much going around about it I'm not sure what's real or just speculation.

to me that's IF the ball boy actually did let air out of the balls when he was in the bathroom. I have doubts about that even happening. And if it was a problem ( walt anderson said he was panicked) when the ball boy took the balls and disappeared with them, why didn't they just make them use the 12 back up balls instead until the others could be retested, or at least randomly retest a couple of the balls before they let them play an entire half of football.

I agree it is "more likely than not" tongue that there had been some tampering, whether it was that game or in the past. there was no damning evidence to me that they were told to do it for the particular game that the investigation was concerningand I don't see how you can suspend a guy 4 games for a minor infraction of a minor rule that half of the people in football never even knew existed before this.
it just seems a bit on the overboard side. 1 game, even 2, and just a fourth round draft choice would have been more than sufficient for the infraction as far as I am concerned. I bet it gets reduced to a 1 or 2 game at most during the appeal, and they made it big to make sure he did get some kind of punishment.

I'm a big Tom Brady fan, but I believe he knew, and told the ball boy to do it, no way does he mess with the balls unless he is told too. It wasn't just the Colt game, the Ravens said they suspected the balls were under inflated the week before in the divisional game. I wouldn't be surprised if other teams came forward with tales as well. I do think the suspension will be reduced, if not flat out thrownout. I don't think this hurts his legacy, he is still one of the greatest QB's of all time and the best of this generation.

When the news broke they were considering a suspension, I thought it would be in the 8-10 gm range, so in a way, he got off light. I don't think the million dollar fine hurts the Patriots, they will recoup that from Tom's suspension. The first round pick will more than likely be somewhere between pick 25-32 anyway, how much can it hurt, the Redskins never have a first round pick. tongue The fourth round could be costly because the truly great teams, like New England find their gems in the late rounds. I think it would have been ironic if they had taken a 6th round pick, like Tom.

after listening to the endless rhetoric about this case, I stand by my statement that tom brady may have told his guys that he wants the balls at 12.5 lbs, and if anything happened they took it upon themselves to deflate the balls. to me that's a huge IF, as most, if not all of the "deflation" could have been because of the conditions that day. The NFL could have gotten something out of this whole mess if they had been reasonable with the suspension, reasonable with the appeals hearing, or reasonable in the court case. i don't believe Brady did anything other than tell the ball boys that he wanted his footballs at the lowest levels and I wholeheartedly agree with the decision to vacate the suspension entirely.

This is ludricous, the season starts one week from tonight, lets just get on with it and move on, I am sick about hearing, and discussing PSI of footballs. It clearly had no effect on the game, 45-17 says it all!

I can't wait to watch him play a (hopefully) whole game.

that's next week and I don't think they had much of a chance before; now they're down another guy.

Bradford is out wild card right now - if he plays like we've been told he can, we should have a great season. It could be our time.
