clinched our first series win in about a month. going for a sweep today

they're being scrappy again - pulled out a W in the top of the 9th. Howard with a big-time bases loaded walk for the winning run.

they came from our bank at work. I often get free tix this way. I guess other people have real plans for the holiday and couldn't use them.

I don't feel like doing anything but I'll take in a game. I'd be home watching it anyway. Now I'll get a good cheesesteak to eat too. Win Win.

Im happy with the All Star selections, hopefully Pedroia gets the last slot too. I don't agree with any of our pitchers making it though.

We only have the obligatory selection but he's worthy.

the rest of the team has also broken out and are hot right now. Hopefully they finish the second half strong.

wright I have no problem with, but Kimbrel is iffy at best.

The position players all deserved it.

Last night was frustrating, you can't blame anyone but the hitters though, they had runners in scoring position all friggin night and couldn't get a hit or a sac fly when they needed it.

I do however wish that they would stahp giving up runs in the first inning, it seems everytime i turn on the game they are already down a couple runs.

i mean really, the first pitch of the game goes for a home run??? again???? Mad Mad Mad

1.) they had a 1-2-3 first inning, which has been unusual
2.) they scored runs in the first 4 innings
C.) Wright pitched well, into the 7th inning, got a little tired
IV.) The bullpen managed to hold onto a 5 run lead in the last 2 innings

The desperately need a starter, and to get kelley into the bullpen to help out, but they have won 4-6 so far in this homestand.

Now if they can just sweep the friggin lowly Rays they can go into the all star break on a high note. I was looking for an 7-2 homestand, hopefully they can make that happen

Of course they went into last years all star break on a high note then started the second half with like a 7 game losing streak so my enthusiasm is somewhat guarded, but they are at least winning series which is what they need to do.

slim pickins in the starting pitcher market, and they will be giving up more than they want to, but i say give up whatever you have to in the minors who isn't named Moncada or benentendi, or at the very least keep one of them.

yeah, they need to be buyers

the last time he pitched, farrell was walking out to the mound, Bucholz started walking back to the dugout before he got halfway there and handed him the ball as he was walking by.

Instead of watching what happens to the 2 guys he effin walked onto the bases he went right in the clubhouse.55

he just don't get it.

the worst part is his interviews never have him saying i have to be better, it always well i threw the pitch and it was a good pitch the guy just happened to tag it 450 feet facepalm

We don't need him, pitching is what we have a lot of.

Hellickson has been good this year. A couple of stinkers but mostly good outings. Remember, we had trouble scoring runs in the first half, He's kept us in games. I'll be sorry to see him go if he's traded.

I didn't even hear a whisper about this move.

he's a bench filler from the looks of it, a stop gap measure to bolster the weak infield bench.

I have a feeling we are going to be letting go of a few farm players before the trading deadline regardless.

At least I hope they do.

despite the good homestand, and playing better, they really need a starter, and then hope that kelly or someone else can fill up some spots in the bullpen.

I said to myself they need to go7-2 in that homestand and they did what they had to do.

I see they are going to give Bucholz and EROD another shot in the rotation, I honestly think it's to try and get something for at least one of them.

Putting a major league starter in a package, mediocre or not, might help them land a starter.

there really aren't any starters out there in the market right now and they will have to put together a package that will look like they are giving up too much to get one

I like the ziegler trade regardless of whether kimbrel comes back or not, they needed another arm in that bullpen.

Koji cannot be expected to close games at his age, he can't pitch 2-3 days ina row and with the schedule they have in august and september the closer is going to have to do that.

I really think that shaw or bradley are going to be looked at by anyone who willing to give up a starter. They will NOt trade Bogarts or betts and those 2 are going to be targeted by the teams they need to talk to about pitching.

i don't want to lose either one of them but given a choice, i think shaw may be the one who ends up getting traded, they can fill 3rd base with someone else, and have options coming up in the minors.

Bradley is too good defensively and has proven he can hit consistently in the majors to be traded, i would hate to lose that arm and defense up the middle.

11 games over 500 and in the playoffs at this point is more than i expected from the Sox this year, i was hoping for a competititve team and have been pleased with what they have show so far, the pitching was always going to be an issue and honestly it is about where i thought it would be, Bucholz and wright basically swapped places as to who was going to be the third decent starter, but I knew they only had 3 that they could "depend on", and the 4-5 spot, like most teams was gonna be a crap shoot with a bunch of JAGS filling in.

We finished the first half with a 13 game improvement from the same time last year. After a collective slump in June they seem to be righting the ship. They're only 6 games under and if they can avoid another June they may even finish up .500 or close to it. That's more than anyone predicted for them this year.

And now's the time where we'll start to see more of the prospects coming up - this is going to be fun.

Well, we've added a starter, he's an all-star that hasn't seem to hae found his niche yet, gave up a great prospect for him, still think we need another starter though.

http://fullcount.weei.com/sports/boston/baseball/red-sox/2016/07/14/reports-red-sox-acquire-starter-drew-pomeranz-from-padres-anderson-espinoza-part-of-deal/

I am very happy about this trade.

they got a good starter, and gave up an 18 year old kid, who may or may not become anything in the future.

I heard alot of people last night  saying they were crazy to give up this pitcher for Pomeranz.

1.) yes he looks promising, but the red sox cannot develop pitching and would have fucked this kid up long before he got tot the majors
2.) he is 18 years old which means it will be AT least 4 years before he sees a major league field
3>) the red sox kept all of their best prospect other than him
4>)they did not have to give up any of their major league players to get him
5.) if in the future this kid becomes what everyone thinks he MAY, the red sox can make deal with the padres at that time and give up another prospect at that time to get him back tongue

this to me is a no brainer, the Red sox needed a starter, got an all star pitcher under control for the next few years and gave up 1 young prospect, kept the 2 guys considered untouchable and have now become, if he pitches anywhere near what he has all year, one of the best teams in the American league with a much better chance of making the playoffs and world series than they had without him

I say YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!! great move by Dumbrowski.

I'd be satisfied if they get another reliever, or another starter, but if this is all they do, then I do like their chances alot more than I did yesterday morning. even if his ERA ends up at 4 from the 2.4 or so it is now that is a huge improvement over their other options.

I especially like that all it cost was a 18 year old prospect. yes he is supposed to be a great pitcher, but i have heard that about owens, bard brian johnson and a shit ton of other can't miss prospects. they did what they had to do and getting a starter any better than him would have cost a hell of alot more than that.

.5 game out of first, they need to make hay on this homestand, they now have 42 games in the next 43 days, with 2 west coast road trips and 23 days of travel .

at one point they play a night game in baltimore, then the next day have a 1PM start in detroit yawn coffeee uh

now that Koji also down, they definitely need bullpen help more than a starter, hopefully they can make a trade and pick up someone, or kelley can slip into that role.

tough stretch comin up they need to grab wins whereever they can and this next 8 games at home is important.

you have to get younger, and losing a long time player, no matter how well liked is part of it.

I can still remember when plyers like rico petrocelli and YAZ were playing and at the time i thought they would play forever but you get e a new guy and he becomes the player everyone loves.

with the new front office you have I imagine that they wil make some changes this year too and before ya know it you'll be watchin games in october

I'm sure my father, and probably me too were watching it.

i was 4 and it was a B and W Tv, it was like 73-74 before we got our first colr TV.

the 75 Ws was the one that really cemented my love of baseball, I watched every minute of that series, cut out every article and put it ina scrapbook....well all the articles until the ones about the 7th game....kinda lost interest in the whole thing when they lost. Mad

They've been getting younger - most of the team is under 25 now I think. We're about to go through some changes. Aaron Altherr will be coming off the DL - he was supposed to be our RF before he got hurt in the spring. I was looking forward to him this year. We also have another starting pitcher that will replace Hellickson and of course our future star SS, JP Crawford. He may not be until Sept though as should our future LF Nick Williams.

I'm beyond ready for some Philly October baseball.

I think that was the only one I have ever watched
I'm sure my father, and probably me too were watching it.

i was 4 and it was a B and W Tv, it was like 73-74 before we got our first colr TV.

the 75 Ws was the one that really cemented my love of baseball, I watched every minute of that series, cut out every article and put it ina scrapbook....well all the articles until the ones about the 7th game....kinda lost interest in the whole thing when they lost. Mad

great, fantabulous year!

growing up up here on the west coast in the 50's & 60's we only had 3 TV channels and 2 were Canadian and 1 CBS affiliate in Bellingham Wash. so following an MLB team wasnt easy and my parents weren't sports fans and TV viewing was at the parents discretion. So I never really developed an interest in it.

Rough night for Pomeranz, but Rameriz looked great, good series against the Giants.

I'll let that game go with the nerves of starting his first game here, but i would hope his ERA will be lower than 15.00 going forward.gross

back in first place!!!

if han Ram can get hot for a few weeks the offense will be unstoppable.

Sandy leon is like a Monster!!! never thought we'd be seeing that from him, but i like it.

matt barnes was awesome last night.

i'll take the win, but i was worried a bit when they came back from an 8-0 deficit. uh

great pitching and great hitting 13-2 win over the twinnies.

even Bucholz looked good. he has got to be looking for a trade at this point, the first time he pitches in 3 weeks is the 9th inning of a 13-2 blowout.

Ok, the Sox need to make a deal for either Chris Sale or Archer, they can't waste Papi's final season, and this offense can go toe to toe with any in baseball, just need the arms to get them there!

I'm more pissed about losing 2 to the twins than getting swept by the tigers. they had about a 100 chances to win more games and every time they get the lead back they give up runs.

really aggravating homestand

yeah they either need a starter or probably 2 mre bullpen arms.

100 games in, 55-45, which is better than I thought they would be

that's a plus

62 games left

20- home games
42- road games
judgy1

If they are going to make the playoffs they need to turn this around tonight and not look back

they cannot settle for 500 on the road at this point they are going to have to do it the hard way
