| Kraken.
Huh?
You know...that thing that got released in that abysmal remake of Clash of the Titans.
So, what's that have to do with Seattle?
Well you know, the largest species of octopus in the world lives in Puget Sound.
Um...yeah. Knew that. It's intelligent, docile, about as threatening as Bambi, and most importantly it's not a squid.
It's a cephalopod.
Where did you learn that word?
In the press report.
So now you are Marlin Perkins because you read a press report...
Who?
Um...okay, change that. Now you are Steve Irwin...
He's dead.
So is Marlin Perkins. What's you point?
Uh...don't have one. But...
Listen. Even though a squid and an octopus are both cephalopods they are vastly different. Not going into that and further, but you *should* be able to tell them apart. That said, a Kraken is a creature from Norse folklore base (believedly) on the Giant Squid. It's not Greek at all so there was no valid reason to include it that movie, except that's Hollywood. Also there are no Giant Squid in the northeastern Pacific. The largest squid in the waters off the US West Coast is the Humboldt, only about 3 feet long and never seen north of California. Also the Giant Pacific Octopus is the largest species of octopus but the largest specimens are in fact caught off of Japan.
So that's why all tentacle hen...
NOT GOING THERE.
Sorry. You were saying?
I was explaining why there is no valid regional reason for the team name.
Okay, got that. But the fans wanted it.
Which fans?
A bunch of people on the internet. They were very insistent.
A bunch of social media sheeple? Give me a break. Or have you forgotten Boaty McBoatface already?
No, but what's that...
...got to do with it? Simple. Social media sheeple are like just about every large group of people. They want to stay together because there is safety in numbers but when it comes time to pick a direction they follow the one who who screams the loudest.
So...
Some person suggested the name, probably got a few more to back him or her, instant "popular opinion".
So who would that person be?
Can't say for sure but I would suspect Jerry Bruckheimer.
That name rings a bell...
He is one of the owners of the franchise. He's also the guy who made the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.
Oh yeah. I remember seeing his name on the Blue Ray box.
Right. So you remember that in the second movie Jack Sparrow sees a Giant Squid-like thing?
If you say so.
I think it was the second one. Whatever, it ties Bruckheimer to the Kraken by association.
You make it sound like he's fixated on Kraken.
Maybe he is. | |

| It's official. The Seattle Kraken is a suck-ass team. Nearly to the mid point of the season, 35 games in, to be exact, and they have amassed a whopping total thus far of 24 points. I'm sticking with my prediction of the team being elsewhere to start it's fourth season. | |

| seriously .... and where would they move to after 4 seasons? Atlanta? been there didnt work twice!! Kansas City? been there didnt last Hartford? been there done that
and Bettman has an aversion to another team in Canada. SW Ontario can support another team, the Coyotes could have been there but the NHL would rather lose money in the desert. Quebec City wants a team but why would they put a winter sport team in a place that actually gets winter............... but what do I know I'm just an ex-fan who kicked the habit years ago

| The Mariners total attendance in their first season was something like 1.2 million but after that they didn't break a million fans for a season for 15 years. Some years they didn't even hit 700K. The Kraken will be facing a similar drop off once the novelty wears off of they are not putting a competitive team on the ice. Where to? Nobody has tried New Orleans yet. They don't even have a big league baseball team there. Just the Saints and recently the Pelicans for major sports. Houston? San Antonio? Indianapolis? Cleveland? SLC? If you can stomach reading it, here is Ron Francis in full spin mode, a high rotational velocity apparently being a prerequisite for applying polish to a turd: https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/32988363/seattle-gm-ron-francis-where-kraken-go-2022-beyond | |

| the defunct WHA had teams in Houston ( AEROS), Indianapolis (RACERS), Cleveland (CRUSADERS) Clevleand also had an NHL team the BARONS and they were a relocated team from Oakland Ca. THE GOLDEN SEALS
my point for moving a team into SW Ontario is the Maple Leafs are the most valuable team in the NHL 2 Billion dollars (USD) the wait list for season tickets is 20 years they havent been to the cup in 55 years and 22 of those years they missed the playoffs entirely. there is enough interest to support an other team even a mediocre one

| The Karaken are not in the basement at least, their 11 wins in 38 games is better than Montreals 7 wins in 37 games
the Canucks first 4 seasons in the NHL they could only muster 24 wins in 2 of them
