Since this is a new place and there are a bunch of Canadians aboot, I thought I would ask:

Anyone a fan of DaVinci's Inquest or Intelligence (the one by Chris Haddock, not the one with Josh Holloway)?

Both are Canadian shows by Chris Haddock.

Davinci's Inquest ran for eight seasons with the last season being titled Davinci's City Hall. Only the first three seasons are available on DVD, sadly. It was primarily a police crime show, with both stand alone episodes and, later on, longer story arcs. The protagonist was the Vancouver BC coroner (not necessarily a pathologist) whose primary focus was on reducing preventable deaths. This made it somewhat liberal in it's outlook, at least by American standards, as he argued for things like needle exchanges. They also spent a lot of time with the police detectives he worked with. What makes it stand out are the phenomenal writing and the extremely realistic feel of the show. I do not like crime procedurals, but this was different. It felt a lot like what I imagine those jobs must be like. It felt real, not melodramatic or contrived.

Intelligence (NOT with Josh Holloway) was his next series after that. If anything, it was better than even his last season of Davinci's, and if I were to try one out, I'd start here. Both seasons are out on DVD, thankfully. Intelligence is about the interplay between a police organized crime unit and an organized drug syndicate, and how they both are trying to keep tabs on each other through surveillance and informants. This show hits the ground at a run, and only picks up the pace from there. It is complicated, intense, and something that you cannot enjoy if you are only half paying attention! I recommend no more than one hour long episode a day. Amazing and thoughtful writing and a frenetic pace make this show one that is often regarded by those who have seen it as one of the best shows ever to air.

Yes I watched DaVincis Inquest
It is based on Larry Campbell former Mayor of Vancouver who was also the former coroner and former member of the RCMP and now is a Senator

I agree the writing was very good. The story lines were taken from real issues in Vancouver
Detective Shannon was played by Donnelly Rhodes who sadley passed away earlier this year
If you were a fan of SOAP he played Dutch the escaped convict

There was a CBC drama that ran from 1966-68 called WOJECK that was about a crusading coroner that was the inspiration for Quincy ME
don't know if it is available anywhere, for the 60's television it was pretty gritty
