March Madness 2020 IS CANCELED

I know it's early in March yet, but i'm starting a thread anyway.

Please feel free to post brackets, predictions, reactions, etc as usual.

The Siena Saints went undefeated at home this year and won the top seed in the MAAC. They won their last 9 games and 12 of their last 13. If they stay hot and win the MAAC with 3 more victories, they're guaranteed a spot at The Big Dance, for the first time in 11 seasons. If not, and their NCAA Tourney appearance drought continues, they will still play in the NIT.

The SUNY Albany Great Danes. on the other hand, were within a couple games of .500 most of the season, before closing out the regular season with 5 straight losses. They then lost tonight in the first round of the America East Tourney, and their disappointing year is over. Tonight was their third loss to Stony Brook this season, and their second in 8 days, both by 3 points.

Syracuse lost in Miami tonight, which means they'll have the 6 seed in the ACC Tourney. They finish the regular season with a 17-14 record (10-10 in conference play) and will not likely make The Dance.

Albany's Times Union Center (formerly known as Pepsi Arena and originally christened The Knickerbocker Arena) will host some games for the first and second round of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament on March 19th and 21st.

As if to continue the theme (grand disappointment) Boeheim's one-time disciple and heir-apparent Mike Hopkins had a miserable third season in charge at Washington. They started off well enough in the non-conference games, 10-2 and 21st ranked with the only losses to Gonzaga and Tennessee and a win over Baylor before a loss to Houston in the final of the Diamond Head Classic before embarking on their conference slate. However, highly touted Kentucky soph transfer G. Quade Green was ruled academically ineligible and the Huskies hit the much-improved Pac-12 missing an important starter. The result was a 5-13 conference record, last place, 15-16 overall.

I guess everything has been cancelled.

I think some effort should be made to have a tournament later in the year, all things being equal. The biggest equal of course would be if Covid has calmed the f down by a certain date. But maybe nothing too forward-thinking would work and everybody remaining in college will have to wait until next year.

What i heard today is that the tourney will go on, because television money, but nobody will be allowed to spectate in person. 

that would actually be very good news. the entire world shouldn't shut down because life gets dumb sometimes. we'll see how this plays out...

Apparently what i heard was at best wishful thinking and at worst an utter fabrication.
