really the only way to actually build a teamis with young players. he started out doing that in Boston, and it worked, but then they got into the old habit of trying to buy a team, which never seems to work out. The sox were struggling until they brought up a couple of young guys from AAA and it sems to have given them a bit of a spark

| as per usual, bad news follows the good
Worley out with elbow pain and Kendrick will face off against Garza
Kendrick - like a box of chocolates - you never know what you're going to get

| those AAA players are still hungry and put more effort i think...hustle hard and work hard ..dont stand there and watch homeruns go over..they sprint down the line like its staying in the park and theyre hoping for a triple...Soriano does this shit everytime..sometimes standing there and the ball doesnt even go out..and he gets a long single..
the kids coming up are still fighting for it all...most veteran 'stars' feel like they are owed something...Vets that i like that never got like that are players like Biggio..Yadier Molina..Chipper Jones types..
p.s....we gonna win Blondie! :)

| I don't doubt it but, Kendrick surprises when we least expect it. and the offense should be fired up after the walk off hopefully, anyway. | |

| the thing the cubs are good at this year is causing mischief on the bases and causing the other team to make errors..Campana mostly..but we have a real fast teaam that can bunt for hits and steal 2nd and third just like that...messes up the pitcher quite a bit ...its the kind of small ball ive wantedd for years... | |

you'll get to KK then - he's not the greatest. But watch out for Chooch - he's been throwing out everyone this season.

Theo did that for a few years, using the talent ( youk, pedroia, lester papelbon, etc.) but the last couple of years seemed more interested in making a splash with a big free agent signing or trade.

I guess the problem is when you're at the top for so long, you draft to high to get the best guys in your system at a young age, therefore you need to pay for talent. Not to mention how expensive those home grown all stars become after a few years. and I think these GM's get addicted to spending the big money.

and I think these GM's get addicted to spending the big money. they get pressure from owners to get a winning team on the field, and also to pursue certain players, because they have the money. I have no doubt that the owners had a say in lackey, in crawford, and gonzalez, lougo, all of them. to me drafting is one thing, but the real problem becomes how much you rape your farm system to get a top player. I mean the sox have been way above average for years, and they still had plenty of talented players coming up, they have had pretty good luck with their farm system, even though they've been a playoff team, or at least in contention for the playoffs for 10 years or more

Although most of them haven't really worked out for their new teams. Drabek maybe. And I think we may get to see a couple guys from the Lee trade. We still hoard pitchers though.
