really?? I was wondering cause I saw that video on youtube and was thinking she would have been before The Animals were popular. They refer to it as cover of The Animals, but good know who the real singer is.

the British Invasion Bands took a lot of "race records" amped it up and introduced it to white middle class american kids who had never heard the original stuff

IIRC, "Misunderstood" was written for Miss Simone. Another bit of trivia – when she sang "The Black Freighter", she changed the words. The original German translates to a description of the ship as having “eight sails” and she made it “black sails” to better express her political thoughts.
