And I have my first injury report and its a doozy

Cole Hamels has shoulder tendonitis and won't be ready for opening day  cry

He says he'll pitch in April still but is behind. We'll see how true that statement is. Looks like our opening day starter will be Cliff Lee - against his former team.

I may as well rename this the Phillies thread tongue

Phillies to sign AJ Burnett

this could be intersting. He didn't do well in a big market and while our audience has shrunk a little, our media is still as brutal as ever.

I did read one opinion when this rumor was flying around that he could actually make us playoff possible.

And of course, he's OLD ENOUGH to qualify for our team omg

Who cares about meaningless preseason predictions, The Blue Jays were supposed to win the World Series last year, and they finished in last place, your Cubs may surprise you. I mean, do you think any Pirate fan thought they would make the playoffs last year before the start of the season? Enjoy spring ball, we all have a shot right now!

that's true..we do have a young core and tons of prospects coming up and good trade bait to offer aaround the trade deadline to get even more young prospects...jus takes a few of those youngins to explode and surprise everyone...plus we got a lot of extra money now from all the small contracts to make that big free agent buy in the next couple years when the time is right..

I never believe that. I remember how bad all those guys were when they were Marlins.

I'm not reading too much into anything, expectations are LOW. Although it is nice to finally read that we're not predicted to be the basement of the NL East.

Ryan dempster has decided to not play this year, citing neck problems and a desire to spend more time with his family, will forego the season and his 13.25 million salary.

Most guys would have tried to play and taken the 13 mil, classy guy.

best of luck in the fututre Demp,

so apparently the Phillies accused two draft picks of using agents and now we'll never sign a draft pick again since agents will be boycotting them. Great since our system is void of prospects. :|

Aren't draft picks allowed to have agents?

I guess draft picks aren't allowed to use any type of advisor (but its common anyway). Anyway, two of our picks decided to stay in school and didn't sign and the Phillies reported them; sounding remarkably like sour grapes. Here's a link to what I read. Sounds like they screwed themselves big time.

that won't work, if the player wants to sign with the philies the agents will talk.

It sounds like they violated NCAA rules becasue they were in college at the time, and college players aren't allowed to have dealings with agents.

just one of a hundred stupid rules for the NCAA.

If a player is going to leave school to play pro sports, shouldn't he be entitled to having someone represent him other than his aunt Ruth??

i know there have been problems with agents enticing players to sign on with them, but if they have rules set up shouldn't the rules be the agents can't give them money and other perks and not that a player who needs to be represented in what can be a complicated system not have access to it?/

yes, it does sound like they violated the rules but it also sounds like this happens all the time. I'm sure the Phils are upset since its been a while since they had high draft picks and when they don't end up signing then they get nothing (or do they get a compensatory pick later?)

I thought it sounded vindictive of them to turn them in, plus they haven't commented on it which makes them look worse. I guess there's more to the story - usually is.

33 days until the Red Sox defense of their championship starts in baltimore.

I hopedafuck it warms up some by then.

Friday morning it's supposed to be single digits with a 40 MPH wind  :cold:

I still have over a foot of snow in my yard even after a few days of 50 degrees and rain, I bet i got 40 lbs of dog crap to pick up when I can finally get out to see it.

we got a dusting today that is already gone

but I just saw something from our weatherman that says he "doesn't like what he's seeing for Sunday through Tuesday"  cry

Our new "groundball" pitcher Roberto Hernandez gave up a HR and two high off the wall doubles. Not a great start.
