Catch-22 Hulu

Just finished the 6 part mini-series produced George Clooney.  It's a very good adaption of the novel.   I don't know a lot of the actors, Clooney has a small role, but  Christopher Abbott who plays John Yossarian is really outstanding.  They even managed to find some surviving B-25's so thankfully they didn't have to totally rely on CGI.  

There was only one catch and that was Catch-22, which specified that a concern for one's safety in the face of dangers that were real and immediate was the process of a rational mind.  If one is crazy, one does not have to fly missions; and one must be crazy to fly. But one has to apply to be excused, and applying demonstrates that one is not crazy. As a result, one must continue flying, either not applying to be excused, or applying and being refused.  

I"ve seem the film with Alan Arkin as Yossarian and I read the book years ago.

Arkin was great in the film. There are echo's of him with the actor in the mini-series.

Some other good characters ..  General Scheisskopf (Clooney),   Major Major Major  (parental joke, but was promoted from Lt. to Major to avoid confusion; Milo Mindbender - Entrepreneur extraodinaire, wheeling and dealing not only with the Americans, but the Germans.  Great take on the absurd and  mentally surviving war with ever-increasing bombing missions.

Loved both the book and the film. The role put Arkin on the map.

I'm going to see what were talking about with the series.

I just rewatched the film, such a great cast .. Jon Voight, Richard Benjamin, Charles Grodin, Bob Newhart, Orson Welles, etc.
