I enjoyed the first episode of the last season, it has been so long since a new episode aired.  

Sam broke my heart when he cried.   The look on the one dragons face when Jon kissed Dany was funny.

Cersei - I am hoping for a very satisfying death of her this season.    PLEASE I MUST HAVE THIS    

Euron - Just die now.  I dont even enjoy hating you , I just hate you.

The Hound and Arya  have made up.

Yes the Ricksters is all over Joe. I like both sidekicks. But my actual favorites were Holly and Bethany and that nerd weirdo Edwards.

Bran's creepiness is absolutely delicious. I bet that Jamie and he will have an interesting conversation. My guess is Bran will say something like: there is no time for the past. In fact he may say that to the rest of the characters who are more interested in settling old debts. Or Jon Snow will. Somebody will.

Euron is a horrible character. I don't think the actor's very good either. Cersei is the personification of evil plus the actress exudes chemistry and combustion.

But what I cannot wait for the most is Arya going on another assassination spree. Please let it be bloody and plentiful!

I liked all the call backs to the series premiere. They even used the same music in the opening shots.
So Jon Snow finally knows something....about his parentage.    Looks like we may get the big battle next episode.
I'm half thinking that we'll just see the 1st half (or start of) in episode 2. Guess we'll find out this Sunday....    

I can't see Dany bending the knee to Jon, she has too much "Mad King" blood in her and her ruthlessness has been apparent.  I think it will come down to a final conflict between the two of them and someone has to lose, maybe both? I'm hoping in the end it will be  Sansa and Tyrion ultimately on the throne.

In the end there will be no Iron Throne.

I still get a chuckle out of Hodor struggling to carry Bran and imagining the actor thinking, "why did this damn kid have to grow".

It is an interesting idea.

Perhaps High King Jon aka Aegon Targaryen 6th of his name decides that a throne made from the swords of the 1st of his name's vanquished enemies is no longer a fitting symbol, and decides a new throne needs to be crafted with a different symbolism.

With a High King, there can be lesser Kings instead of Wardens. There would still be Games of Thrones, though.

the guy of the guy and gal hosts in providence and i watched most of season 1 yesterday. got has direwolves. we had a yippie but fun schnauzer called George.


now im in provincetown for the weekend. staying in a hotel with a bar and dance club underneath (and its opening night!) where the night is definitely dark and full of terrors.
     

just watched episode 2. much more solid than 1. in fact it's one of the best episodes of the whole series. so many great moments. and i win the bran saying they need jamie prediction. winter is not only coming it's right at the doorstep.

David beat me to it. Such a fantabulous frakkin' episode!  
Loved every frame of every second of every minute of it. Kudos cast & crew!  
The only thing that could've made it even better would've been a Sansa/Hound scene.  Plus Ghost sighting!  
Can't wait for next week's big battle!  Hope my fav peeps live!

I also enjoyed this episode a lot. I thought the writing made it a standout.

Sure I liked it okay but bastards was a better battle. the best part of this episode was to be honest between sansa and tyrion.

So it's Cersei next is it?

That episode was dark! Literally and dramtically! Had to close the blinds (daytime) cuz of the glare.  

The best part was the Nite Kings send off! dbl yay!    

Really liked the Sansa & Tyrion scenes as well.   I'm guessing the last big battle(?) will either be in episode 5 or 6. They may just have an epilogue episode? In fact let that be my half jokingly stab at a prediction for how the series flames out.  

My favorite moment was when the survivors were on their last legs, managing to survive the last hour battling the wights, and then the NK raises all of the dead on the battlefield.  That's the ultimate definition of a no-win situation. Something had to give.

I agree. I think some of the episode lent itself to who should stay but how can we make it impossible for them to survive. I mean Jamie and Brienne were in so much peril all the time that I think sheer exhaustion would have defeated them. At least Arya's skill made some sense.

Also I think I have seen some of these battle sequences in Harry Potter and the Chronicles of Narnia. Maybe???

Finally I wish they did a little more with the episode. I hate that style of the undead. Too much rabid undead running fast. I did like the blue eyes though. And I liked the Night King's slow I got this y'all walking pace. I wish they did something like if Bran's the memory man then tell the story more through his memories and have it be all jumbled according to his mind and maybe we just didn't need to know every inch of how people (we liked) died because that part was mostly just okay.


Sansa and Tyrion were the stellar moment because that's who most of us would have been with (because I can barely fight my lawn mower let alone a pack of the undead).

I don't see how Sam could have survived. He was swarmed and definitely doesn't have the sword fighting skills of the others.  It's just fan-service I guess which is a poor excuse given the shocking deaths throughout the series.  Tyrion barely survived two battles, in one he was knocked out cold before it began, and the other he was seriously mamed.  Sam is definitely not Tyrion and no way he could survive being swarmed by wights with sharp objects. Can't buy it.

I liked this episode more than the battle episode. Again the human interaction was more compelling than any other features.

However, based on previous events wouldn't you think that an ambush would be a possibility? Sometimes none of the people we root for has a brain in their head!

I'm starting to get a really strong feeling that Danaerys won't survive the series.

Perhaps not. She was strongest in Essos because there she was loved by her own followers. In Westeros there is nowhere near that kind of admiration. In fact there's a move towards decentralization.

Just traded one despot for another. Just traded one earlier fiery rampage for another. Makes perfect sense in terms of the story.

I liked the episode more than I thought I would. I liked the Arya point of view moments especially. I thought for certain she would use her stealthy nature, but there really wasn't any time for that. Jon is of course appalled. Tyrion as well. But as long as Denaerys is alive and still has the atomic bomb much of Westeros will submit or even cheer. Cersei had a lot of enemies. Those will be Denaerys' friends and allies. The North will ultimately acquiesce because who wants to fight anymore. But will Joh acquiesce? Will Tyrion acquiesce? Arya won't acquiesce that's for sure. Of course Denaerys could abdicate????

Thought this episode was really well done.    

Coming in from the sun was a pretty good tactic but I think a night attack would have worked just as well since they only man the scorpions during the day shift.

Jamie apparently knows a secret passage into the castle since he took a detour up some stairs while everyone else was crashing the gates.  What was it, a secret knock?  

Looks like there was still wildfire in the leftover debris from the Sept explosion. Nice effect with the green wildfire lighting up during some of the strafe attacks.  

What's  fire and a fall compared to a knife in the skull?  The Mountain may be a walking skeleton, but I'm sure he survived. Nah, it's poetic.

I also think there's a chance that Cersei survived.  Jamie's probably not so lucky with his wounds but  Cersei got off too easily, imo.  She needs to be brought before Dany.  

I don't think Dany will be around much longer.

I actually enjoyed the physical presence of the episode.

I think that Daenerys and/or her advisers tactically thought things out better.

I think that Daenerys was always going to incinerate Kings Landing. It didn't look to me as though she ever hesitated. I think that one reason to destroy Kings Landing is to move the center of power from there. To make Kings Landing entirely of the past. Where she'll set up shop in the future I don't know. Maybe in her old familiar haunts. Or maybe in Dorne as well. Dorne is her closest ally.

I think there was a way in that didn't require a door or anything. Or since he was Jamie Lannister he could just be let in. Jamie's problems in getting to the bells were not the best part of the episode although they were a taste as to what Arya had to face in her attempt to escape.

I thought there was a lot of wildfire left. I thought Cersei would stoop so low as to set more of it off to convince others that Daenerys was destroying more of the town. But that idea wasn't necessary at all since Daenerys showed no mercy.

I don't think the Mountain survived. I think Fire consumed him and the Hound. Fire has always been a motif in their relationship. So let fire end it and them.

Cersei might have survived. But not Jamie. Not with the many knife wounds. I wonder though if Cersei were to find a way out of that mess, if she would try to take Jamie's hand with her. Not so much for sentimental value as for the worth of the gold. Would she try to make to Pentos as was suggested or to Lannistown?

No. I don't think Daenerys will survive the final episode.

I don't know why but I've been listening to a lot of youtube recaps and commentary about this last episode in particular. I've dabbled when it came to earlier season 8 episodes. But this one? A lot. Maybe because the series is ending. Or maybe it's I've been looking for the reason why Daenerys especially (other than sloppy writing) is now so out of control or crazy or whatever.

I think the problem always was she was a heroine in Essos because the common people or the slaves or whoever ultimately wanted freedom. Daenerys became revered because she was able to deliver. There were of course hiccups but okay Daenerys succeeded.

In Westeros there is such a hierarchy of status and position that the people of Westeros by and large would never have considered Daenerys a heroine they would support. Plus in Westeros there was more cultural recognition of a person's own separate kingdom than that of the unifying realm in Kings Landing. The North in particular but I bet everywhere. Kings Landing was that place that the Seven Kingdoms just had to deal with although I guess it did have a purpose (when it felt like it) of security from the outside (Essos) and if one of the Kingdoms got a little too greedy (The Iron Islands).

So here comes Daenerys returning to Westeros and while not expecting people to embrace her as Queen fully she sort of demanded allegiance and was willing to throw her dragon weight around to achieve allegiance. Well very few people embraced her per se. Dorne sure. Highgarden out of the need for revenge but little more than that really. The North out of necessity because of imminent invasion. But even with the disaster of the Night King looming, the North was divided about submitting to anyone anymore. But the Dragons. They were the best weapon against the Night King. And a (temporary) alliance was formed. But of course it wouldn't last. Especially now. After Daenerys incinerated Kings Landing.

But without the dragons, Daenerys was never to go succeed in terms of being the rightful ruler displaced. The North especially, but I suspect other domains as well, had grown tired of centralized rule. And without the dragons, Daenerys would have been considered just another replacement. But with the dragons, Daenerys had pull. But only strategically. Not emotionally. In the end, most of Westeros didn't want her. And now most of Westeros will want her even less.

Here are two paths Daenerys could have chosen instead of the one she did. The first was just to stay in Essos and build up as benevolent an empire as she could manage. Lead by example. Attempt to spread change from afar. And wait for a crisis in Westeros (or manufacture one) and step in. The second path would have been not to have relied on Dragonstone as the primary or only foothold in Westeros. Dorne as I said were substantial allies to the Targaryans. I say convince Dorne to invite you there and move in half the invading armies there and just stay awhile. Have things play out. Secure that main spot and then when the time is right take more land. Eventually Kings Landing would be surrounded.

Of course Daenerys would have no patience for any of this. But moving into Dorne for example would have been a better move than attacking Lannisport. Daenerys and her people basically fell into the same trap that recently warring kingdoms have done. Advance into neighboring lands and you leave your homeland vulnerable. I think that here the writing was some of the problem. Yes Daenerys was impatient and wanted something done but invasion was not the first step. Securing alliances was. And rewarding those who adhered more quickly than punishing those who did not.

Considering how Dani's brother died, that would be an interesting fate for her, too, thematically. After we ran along with Arya through all the massacre of innocents, I wouldn’t be surprised to have the youngest Stark come out of it wanting to take apart that throne. Good thing Gendry is a metal-worker.

I was pretty disappointed with how TPTB finished off Jaime and Cersei, which seemed anti-climactic, especially since he’d gone through so much maturing over the past seasons. The way he took off from Brienne in the previous episode -- I guess I should have been glad that at least she didn’t fall to her knees sobbing like a stereotypical little schoolgirl. Oh well, at least the anticipated Clegane on Clegane fight ended with some excitement.

I haven't been keeping up with reviews, but are we quite sure that Cersei was finished off? Maybe she survived and will be brought before Dany? I'm kind of hoping this might trigger some murderous response from Tyrion, if he hasn't been executed. Even through all the crap that Cersei brought down on him, he still has a soft spot for her and her unborn child.

It sucks that i'm actually looking forward to this show being over. This character and story arcs this season has been so shoddy. If it wasn't about to be over, i might not have even come back to show after i stopped watching when Jon came back to life.

Which brings me to another thing to complain about: R'Holla or whatever the name was of The Red God. With Melisandre and Beric and Thoros all dead, there's nobody left (except maybe Bran i guess ) who can explain what His whole interest in all this was. Other than bringing Jon back to life and being a vehicle for ritual sacrifice He doesn't seem to have mattered much. Jon doesn't seem to have converted to His religion in spite of the fact that Beric did. I just don't get it.

I wonder if all the gods and all the religions aren't actually the same and what the details are solely depends on who believes and who writes the scripture. Therefore, Bran could totally be the last link to religious answers in Westeros. Meanwhile the show will spend 15 seconds on Bran staring at the inevitable battle in the North.
