I love Hollywood's big night. My 3 favorite things are the listening to the heartfelt speeches, rooting for my personal favorite nominees, and the fashion.
Most years I've watched live, but this year I did it differently and it turned out pretty wonderful. I went to bed early then got up super early to watch them on DVR. I zipped through it in about and hour and change, skipping all the commercials and fluff, without missing a single dramatic moment.
The nominated films I had watched this year were: Losing Vincent(animated film), I Tonya, Three Billboards in Ebbing Missouri, and The Shape Of Water. What I was rooting for hard was Guillermo Del Toro's TSoW, and it's star Sally Hawkins for Best Actress. Frances McDormand gave a phenomenal speech and I believed she was a deserving winner for her performance in 3 Billboards. Also, I realized after TSoW's Alexandre Desplat acceptance speech for Music Original Score just how much the it elevated Hawkin's He thanked director Del Toro for "allowing music to the voice of your characters, and convey the beautiful melancholy of love."
Fashion wise I believe Alison Janney's elegant red gown was breathtaking, and Emma Stone looked wonderful in great jacket and pants. I didn't care too much for Selma Hayek Pinault's busy purple number nor Chadwick Boseman's Matrix-ishy embroidered black jacket.
I whooped my fist in jubilation for all of The Shape of Water's wins and was pleased that Gary Oldman won his first Oscar instead of Daniel Day Lewis winning his 900th, although I have seen neither Darkest Hour nor The Phantom Thread.
What were your favorite movies or performances this past year, and if you watched, what did you think of the 90th Academy Awards Show?

3 Billboards got robbed. Much better film than Shape Of Water.

Another disappointing movie awards season (thankfully) over. While I'm glad Del Toro won Best Director (was long overdue), was rooting for Lady Bird for Best Pic. Also had hoped that Ronan would nab best actress. Sorry, but both Hawkins & Mcdormand already had one. Shoot Streep has like a closet full.

I gave up on awards shows after Leo finally won his Oscar and basically got no credit for it
They just give the awards to the same people every year especially at the emmys. I get it 30 Rock and Modern Family are good shows but seriously there are other TV shows...

Missed this last nite (wasn't actually gonna sit thru the entire show). Pretty good speech by Mcdormand.

I might be the only person in the viewing world who totally loved The Shape of Water.
Btw that picture above is absolutely frightening.

I was happy for Jordan Peele, especially as he was walking backstage and you could really see the realization and emotion sink in. Guillermo del Toro seemed heartfelt and huggable, and I loved how happy Oscar Isaac, who is extremely handsome, was for him.
Fashionwise, gotta hand it to Rita Damn Moreno, who was wearing the same dress she wore in 1962 when she won her Oscar. I thought Allison Janney looked great, and Chadwick Boseman and Margot Robbie looked perfect walking out together.
Is anyone else kinda excited about seeing the new "Mary Poppins"? Just me? Fine.

I watched don’t know why, four hours of my life I’ll never get back. Kept thinking who are all these people where are all the movie stars? I went to the movies twice in 2017. Star Wars (who didn’t) and Dunkirk

My favorite movie stars are Fred Astaire and Leslie Howard, plus Myrna Loy and William Powell. This year's Oscars probably would have been better with them there, but otherwise I enjoyed the show -- it seemed to have more clips than usual, and I always like that.
