well the sox got a bona fide closer, which should help the bullpen considerably. moving Koji to the 8th inning and everyone ele back a bit.

and they gave up prospects but no "front liners" which is good. they still need at least one more arm for the bullpen and hopefully a Number 1 starter.

but they still have a hungry hungry hippo at 3rd base and a statue scheduled to be starting at 1st base but that's a whole 'nother story

Yea, I like the move as well, hopefully add Greinke to the rotation, and maybe trade for another #1

I'd like to see them get 1 proven Ace, and a power arm for the bullpen,

I'm sure they really would like to dump Han ram but nobody will take him even if they pay 80% of the salary

Sox add David Price, While they do need pitching help, I feel like they overpaid for a mediocre postseason pitcher.

He's 0-7 in the post season with a +5 ERA, they can do better. He is not an ace!

yeah, he is questionable at best in the playoffs, but then again so is Clayton kershaw and I wouldn't have a problem handing him the ball in a game I had to win. I think they did over pay, but that;s where the league is right now. When bryce harper is a free agent he will get 10 years 400 million I bet

that's just ridiculous

it's baseball, nothing anyone does in a game is worth that much

Price's contract has an opt out after 3 years but (at least right now), they're saying he'd be hard pressed to find a bigger contract to replace it. Unlike Greinke who is about to sign another $200 million contract.

the red sox were going after him too, he would have had a breakdown in Boston, he would have been quivering in a corner talking to himself and drooling by June tongue

I think its clear he's past that. But even as good as he was last season, he's reportedly getting $32 million per season. that's just nuts.

No one needs that much money. And I don't see how teams will be able to continue to sign players at those prices.

I admit it was fun to watch those big guys and their big money come in to my team the last couple of years. But watching them go out? No so much fun. And teams are back ending the contracts so you're paying even more when the player is guaranteed to not be worth that much.

Gonzalez wasn't bad there was he?

I understand about the other 3 though. But I'm only shocked that Hanley got that much. I thought everyone knew about him and his shortcomings.

Price at least should give you value during the regular season, if not during playoff time. Maybe he'll be better in Boston. Playoffs are so hit and miss.

the first year gonzalez was pretty good, but he never the hitter they expected and he from what was written, was a bit of an issue in the clubhouse.

but he's older than Price and yeah it may have been a couple years shorter in years but you would have been paying him just as much.

I agree, he has it good there, no spotlight, he is behind Kershaw so it's a bit easier for him to succeed. I still think he would have had issues with the pressure here. he could pitch great for a month, but if he had 1 bad game he would get torched here.

I don't think LA is exactly easy to play in - especially with their payroll and the expectations that go along with it.

I know its not Boston or NY or even Philly (I mean a couple years back, we're nothing now).

I just don't see San Fran shelling out that kind of money.

I've also heard that he'd prefer to stay in the NL now seeing as how he's a HR capable hitter.

It has to be easier than any of the cities you mentioned.

if he was to sign in Philly, he would instantly be in the spotlight, as he would have been in Boston or even New york. the attention and the level of expectations in those cities is withering.

i think it might be tough in LA, but certainly not like NY Boston or Philly. he would be a good fit in St Louis, they like to win but don't seem to feel the need to blast someone if they have the slightest of struggles/

I never believe the hype when they bring St. Louis into either - for $$ reasons. I just don't see them spending that much either.

No doubt LA is easier, media wise. I meant the internal pressure of having to justify what? $200-$300 million payroll with nothing to show for it.

Right now Philly's rage is on the Eagles. Bums.

6-10 is gonna win that division and get the team a home playoff game facepalm

We've been complaining about Bradford all season. Now we're (at least I am) begging/hoping that he plays. Not that I think they stand a chance against Brady. He could probably play all by himself and the birds' defense still couldn't stop him facepalm

Cliff lee intends to pitch in 2016.

If he does it successfully I will be mad. He "earned" about $60 million on the DL from us and NOW he's cured and can pitch?

I just read the comments on the Lee story. Phillies fans are united in this. It's bullshit. He refused to try to come back before and now he can pitch?

Lots of movement this off season

Cubbies looking good on paper. Now with heyward out there.

What do you all think about the opt-out clause phase? I don't think I like it. I'm sure the dodgers are regretting giving greinke one.
