| The Scent of Rain and Lightning: ok I had not even heard of this one, but seeing as how the Tomtato Rottener gave it 100% I figure it's gotta be fairly good right?
Well....eh. It is ok for a drama/mystery, but it a movie gets 100% it has to be reallly close to perfect. And this isn't.

| A Walk Among the Tombstones: big Liam Neeson fan here. This crime one which I hadn't heard much about turned out to pretty darn good and some interesting bad guys. If you like seeing Neeson as a police type, you'll enjoy it. 8/10. | |

| Life (2017): ok, sci fi thriller. I do not remember this even being advertised, and I'm curious why, as it is pretty damn good. it disturbed me more than the original Alien did. I now need some time to forget a few scenes. 9/10 if you like being scared/disturbed and edge of your seat thrillers. | |

| Silk: Taiwanese thriller/horror. REALLY good creative movie, not your typical ghost horror. It kept me riveted. (Warning - you'll need to read subtitles - I don't mind this, but some people do.) 8/10. | |

| Ok, I'll have to keep an eye out for Silk. I liked Sunshine, which I thought was terrific, a lot better than Life. Though I'll admit, - spoiler for Life:
killing off Ryan Reynold so early on was a bold move, and totally took me by surprise.

Ryan felt like an add on character to me, Pi. Begs the question why Ryan Reynolds? any extra could have done that.

| You Were Never Really There, 6/10, Cable TV worthy. This bloody mess is getting critical acclaim but, as much as I wanted to like it, I found it lacking in some key areas. Scene by scene, this film is captivating, and Joaquin Phoenix does a fantastic job playing a deeply disturbed hero. As a whole though, it lacked cohesion, substance, and ultimately believability. Zap, no parents that I recall. I guess they chose not to dumb it down. | |

I'll second John's opinion here, pretty good flick, edge of seaty most of the time. Definitely some tropey moments to be sure, but fun to watch. Kudos on the poster

| Is that the real movie poster? Pretty clever! I don't know when I'll get to it, though. I'd hate to wait for the dvd on this one, since there are probably scenes that are dark (as in, not strongly lit.) Just saw an old Bogie movie, Dark Passage. Not one of the great ones, but the distrust he conveys with just his voice in the first half is impressive. There's a great moment - The cabby takes him to...:
with a plastic surgeon wielding a razor blade, which it turns out he's going to use to remove the hero's mustache. It's especially disconcerting if, like me, you forgot his original face had one.
E again TA: That's interesting. I just edited to correct spelling and when I reposted it, the spoiler tag was removed. Just put it back, even though this is an old movie and not much of a spoiler.

| Braven, 7/10, Redbox worthy - Drug dealers try to take down Khal Drogo and his family in an action packed thriller.
The Foreigner, 8/10, Dollar Theater worthy - Excellent Jackie Chan fare, which is something I never thought I'd say. The martial arts scenes in this film aren't the normal goofy stunts usually found in a JC film. Instead, they're well done and not shoved down your throat. In The Foreigner, the plot drives the action which is also a nice change from the action driven movies we're used to seeing Mr. Chan bound through.

| I love a long drawn out movie that just wroughts me emotionally (or whatever the correct overwrought verb is.) Punch me around, drain me, make me sad and desolate - some days I love that. Today is that day -watching Alien 3.
eta: Sunshine a close second, most excellent film.

| Terminal, 7/10 Dollar Theater worthy - With an ensemble like Mike Myers, Margot Robbie, and Simon Pegg... how could this movie go wrong? Well it didn't, although it definitely isn't for everyone. This movie is NOT a comedy despite the inference that could be made after learning the cast. This film is, well, not easy to pinpoint a genre. If one were to take the style of a 1940s detective yarn and combine it with some Tarantinoesque dialogue and machinations and then throw in a Hitchcockian twist, Terminal is the film that would result. It kept me going from start to finish.
If that description piques your interest, you definitely need to go see this movie.

| I've never even heard of this movie (at first glance I thought you meant The Terminal with Tom Hanks, a highly underrated movie IMO.) It sounds interesting, and Simon Pegg always makes a movie better. And Ms Robbie, rowrrrrrrrr.
Did you hear MM is considering making another Austin Powers movie? He says it would be from Dr Evil's perspective. Could be good, could be a train wreck of epicology.

| More agreement on A Quiet Place – Definitely worthwhile. It’s a smart concept and generally well thought-out world-building, like the warning lights. (Though I think they cheated a bit on exactly what constitutes too loud, like their water pump would have been.) A bit of advice to anyone planning to see it -- If you see it in a multiplex, you might want to be sure that the Avengers or similar aren’t ruckusing next door, because there are a number of silent and near silent stretches, and those multiplexes have thin walls. | |
