Those were two of the best Conference Championship games I can remember. One reason. The New England Patriots weren't apart of it.

I think we can reasonably expect to see Baltimore in postseason regularly again in the next few years...
That's a pretty good bet, but will they be able to get to the Super Bowl?
This is the 2nd time in as many seasons, that Lamar Jackson and the Ravens have been blown out in a playoff game. When do we call them a "seasonal" team, not a playoff team?

His Royal Dorkness wrote:

...The Chiefs, on the other hand, haven't won a Superbowl since 1969, which was their only Superbowl win despite having won two AFL championships previously and having been the AFC's representative in the first Superbowl.

Statistically the 49ers seem to have a slight edge, and i expect Vegas will have them giving Kansas City a thin margin, possibly as slight as 1/2 a point or as large as 3 points, but my guess is 1.5 - 2...
Yeah, I kind'a agree with the "story" the NFL has been selling.
Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs versus Jimmy "G" and the 49ers.
This "new blood" is what's going to make this the highest rated Super Bowl in history. Mark my words.

His Royal Dorkness wrote:
...I don't really have a dog in this fight in any meaningful sense, but i will root for the Chiefs because of old history between the 49ers and Saints franchises and also because i'd like to see Andy Reid get a Superbowl win.
My father always stressed to me, that the L.A. Dodgers were a N.L. team. So, you always pulled for any N.L. in a World Series.
So, with that understanding, I'll be pulling for the 49ers, because they're in the same Conference as the Cowboys.

davidalan wrote:
Andy Reed needs a game where he doesn't give the win away. KC has been scoring a lot of points. But so has SF. So we'll see.
My thinking is...both Mahomes and Jimmy "G" will be in several more Super Bowls, but Andy Reid needs this win for his legacy.

Congrats to Stephon Gilmore--first Patriot (surprisingly) to win Defensive Player of the Year.

Jimmy G is my ex-Pat representative in the big game, so go 49ers!

Ahhh. The bashing on the Trash Talk page is harsh. This is the comeuppance for years of posting the Butler goal-line INT gif. With the game on the line in the fourth quarter Jimmy Gar-awfullo couldn't even get past midfield.

Up 20-10 with six minutes left and lose 31-20? That tops throwing a goal line INT as the worst fail in Super Bowl history.

Some YouTube comments say: KC down by ten. Right where they wanted the 49ers.

I only watched the highlights. They were fine. But were they great? I liked the very close TD by KC towards the end.

But Andy gets a ring. After giving so many others away. Good for him.

Amen to all that. I liked the INT highlight, personally, but also passed on watching the game itself. At least it didn't end with Pass Interference, and i'm happy for Andy Reid.

I haven't seen the ratings numbers yet, Hodge, but i'll try to keep an eye out for them.

Having literally no coverage on Tyreek Hill on 3rd-and-15 on the drive that turned things around for KC was one of the reasons for the flop. So was SF's lack of emphasis on the running game throughout, and a tendency of receivers to go out of bounds instead of milking the clock at critical moments. But I knew KC was going to win it when SF would not use its timeouts with possession and 1:30 on the clock before halftime. That meant they were playing to keep the ball out of KC's hands rather than maximize their own opportunities on offense. Being intimidated by the other team is no way to win a Super Bowl.

I'll file that under "Experience Speaking", given your team's record. Very Happy

Which brings to mind something from the other football, the sort where the use their feet to move the ball about. One of the staff writers on MLSSoccer dot com (or as I call it, Major League Redundant dot com) is a former player who spent a few seasons collecting slivers in his ass and a small paycheck, name of Bobby Warshaw. He's one of the most frustrating sort of sports analyst, the one with a good knowledge of the sport they cover, but nowhere near as much as they believe they do.
One thing which has constantly baffled him over the last couple of seasons is the Sounders, particularly the way the team is set up. To Warshaw's limited thinking a team can either be strong defensively or strong in attack. Not both. Sounders are a "defense first" team that uses quick movement of the ball, one-and-two touch passing, runs into space off the ball, frequent switching of the point of attack, basically big-boy tactics, to break down defenses.

Over the last season it seemed like every time Warshaw said or wrote something about the team, there was GOLFNUT, one of the most prolific of the Sounder fans in the comments section, on the spot to announce that again, "Bobby, you STILL don't get the Sounders."

Warshaw: The Sounders string of strong finishes has probably run out this season.
GOLFNUT: Bobby, you still don't get the Sounders.
Warshaw: The Sounders are likely in the play-off but will be lucky to get a home game.
GOLFNUT: Bobby, you still don't get the Sounders.
Warshaw: The Sounders took second place in the West but F.C.Dallas will probably prove too much for them.
GOLFNUT: Bobby....
Warshaw: Real Salt Lake are too good and too determined to let Nick Rimando's storied career end in Seattle
GOLFNUT: Just give it a rest already, Bobby.
Warshaw: Sounders have played above expectations to far but it's all going to end at LAFC, I am predicting a 4-1 final score.
GOLFNUT: Oh really???
Warshaw: Well [snip] me running! And Toronto beat Atlanta as well. Guess I had better come up with something for the MLS Cup "Rubber Match" between the two teams...Okay...my Keys to the Game for both teams. Sounders need to play scared.
Literally everybody in the comments section: WHAT???

He initially started to backtrack, but then he doubled down. I was among the people suggesting he find another line of work.

Atlanta 28-3 is the worst fail in SB history, I would think. But there are quite a few.

That's just getting blown out. There have been a few of those. Bears over the Patriots was one. Poor Steve Grogan could do nothing against Buddy Ryan's 46 Defense while Jim McMahon just seemed to be leading touchdown drives at will. Seahawks over the Broncos. Seahawks were scoring in all three phases, Broncos didn't get on the board until late with Peyton sitting on the sideline, head in his hands, wishing the nightmare would end soon.

No...Seahawks and Patriots was one of the most exciting games in Super Bowl history. But the Seahawks blinked first. It's a shame that a game THAT entertaining only gets remembered for the one play.

HRD, they were up massively. If I understand what I read, this Super Bowl's numbers were up over the last four. And, last years was a 10 year low.

Damn Peggy, I couldn't understand the poor clock management either.
With 1:49 left in the half and 3 time-outs left, the 49ers ended the half with the same 3 time outs. ?

And don't get me started on the lack of a run game. Mostert (spl) ran for 220yrds. in the Conf. final. I'm not sure they ran the ball 10+ times in the whole game. dunno

I guess everyone really has gotten tired of the Patriots.

So to revisit what I posted earlier, Mister Bobby Warshaw of Major League Redundant dot com to be specific. One of the regular video features is the Extra Time Radio podcast which always provides Bobby with an opportunity to prove that he's not as smart as he thinks he is. They devoted a segment in yesterday's show to the Sounders. About 10 minutes or so. Matt Doyle, who really is as smart as he thinks he is, gave an explanation of how the Sounders signing a new D-Mid to a DP contract will allow the versatile Christian Roldan to move to the right winger position which will create more attacking space for the central midfielder, Nicolas Lodiero, and also allow right back Kelvin Leerdam to operate more "line to line". Bobby just sat there like a statue while Doyle and the other two discussed the team, the look on Bobby's face was identical to that of a 5th Grader who wants to pull the ponytail of the girl in front of him but the teacher is glaring at him. It was as if the producer told him to STFU while they were talking about the Sounders because there is a huge ECS presence in the comments section already screaming for his head.

"Atlanta 28-3" refers to the lead Atlanta had over New England in Superbowl 51: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Bowl_LI

Far from a blowout, it was the only Superbowl to go to OverTime.

Yeah, i didn't really watch it either. Just sayin'.

I saw a headline in my news feed today about 10 teams being interested in Tom Brady in Free Agency. I had a few good chuckles about that and then clicked on the link that led to the story about the blockbuster 4-team trade in the NBA.
