Yea, I think it is, since it's gonna be like playoff baseball the last month of the season.

Peavey again pitched well and they didn't score any damn runs for him, they lost tampa won, right now technically tied for first but down 2 games in the loss column.

with tampa 2 games up in the loss column I am worried

though this is without a doubt the hardest part of the seasion 16 of 19 on the road, with a west coast trip against interleague ( to me that is just dumb having interleague games in August and september but that's another rant for later)

they need to get through this, get buch back ( who actually looks like he might be able to pitch in sept from what i'm reading), and get the bats back a little.

alot of losses are on the hitters right now, can't fault peavey for giving up 2 runs in his last 2 games and still not getting a win.

i was just listening to a fan on the local sports station saying how Farrell is the worst manager in the league and should have never been given the job tongue

Way overreaction, I shudder to think what they would look like without Farrell, and spot on about Peavy, he has pitched great.

Tigers keeping pace with Cleveland, until they meet them at the end of the month, and hopefully then we can lock away the division....too bad they coudln't have gotten a couple of their runs earlier in the game for Sanchez, but at least they won...

alot, and i mean alot, of seats at fenway kinda suck, some of them you are actually behind a pole and can't see a big part of the field, it doesn't stop people from buying them and going to the game.

these are just up in the upper levels. I don't think we have bad, bad seats like what you're describing though. and yes, better than watching at home

they have a lot of standing room and after about the 7th you can pretty much move where you want

benefit of a sucking team is that they are no longer sold out and there are plenty of seats left.

we go to a couple of games a year, not too many

I think it's been 10 years or more since I last went to a game.

It doesn't help that my wife couldn't be less interested in going if she tried, but I do have alot of friends that would be willing to go if I asked.

i just have to make some time and go, it's only about 1 1/2 hour drive to Boston, it's not like I would be staying overnight, though going on a weekend would be much easier.

which in boston is as bad as it can get.

When I do go, we park about 15 miles outside the city, and take the subway in, they have a stop right across the street for the park and it costs alot less to park.

in the city, it isn't out of the ordinary to pay 50 or 100 bucks to park near the stadium. Surprised

yikes! we park across the street from the stadium for $15

leaving is usually about a 45 minute wait to really get out of the block around the stadium but again, no traffic now. the people who show up leave early if they're losing. at least they did the other night. I made it home in 15 minutes

Six hours later and we go to the top of the 16th. I left after 12. Sundays starter has already pitched four innings and is batting cleanup. Speculation is that instead of a rehab appreance in AA, Halladay could be activated and pitch here instead. A tired Diamonbacks lineup could be easier than the minor leaguers in this case. Of course, we may need another pitcher tonight soon. We have one position player left. The dbacks have none. I think they are also on tomorrow's started but he just came in last inning.

Our right fielder is on the mound, ruf moves to right (hid third position of the night) and our last player, a backup infielder is in left. Cliff lee would be the next pitcher

I'll take 2 of 3 from the dodgers.

The pitching was phenomenal on this road trip, to be honest, we should have won all six games, but 2 of them we got completely shut down.

30 games left, 18 at home, with plenty of days off in there, hopefully they can hold on to their razor thin lead, with tampa having no more days off til the end of the season

Peavy was such a good pickup, he has just pitched great since he go to Boston. Finally got him some run support last night. Hopefully the Rays are cooling off so that the Sox can put some distance between them.

I don't know about them cooling off, hopefully they at least get tired with no days off.

The red sox have 18 of the next 25 at home, mostly against AL East opponents, this is their division to win or lose with a schedule like that

Tampa has only 13 home games left, and the rest are on the road, with a big 10 game west coast road trip after tavelling for a make up game against KC, they go home for 3 against the angels of somewhere in the general area of los angeles anaheim and disneyland, then Oakland and the angels of used to be anaheim used to be los angeles used to be california angels again, and then seattle.

Hopefully this travel takes the wind out of them, a nice sub 500 run for the next 2 weeks would really help.

the sox went thru their toughest part of schedule at 9-10 and are still in first, hopefully they can rack up some wins at home, rest their pitchers with the off days this month and be able to hit.

it appears that most of the slumping hitters are starting to find their stroke again, being home should help that.

Hoping for a good series against the Reds. I'm nervous. The NL Central has been crazy between the Birds, Reds, and Pirates. It's getting to be this time --->scrd scrd scrd

So matt harvey has to have tommy John surgery

It's a shame, these guys throw so hard but it seems like they just don't last.  He only made his debut this year.  Now he is probably going to lose all of next year too.

i think it is because they throw their secondary pitches curves slider changeup soo hard, and because there is such emphasis on keeping the arm slot the same for those pitches.

pitching is such an unnatural movement for an arm to begin with and when they are throwing the junk, while trying to look like they are throwing a fastball, it puts alot of stress on the ligaments in the arm.

I think that was at least partially the theory on what happened to Lidge - the slider was so extreme that it ruined his arm. The other theory was his knee issue from being tackled by Ryan Howard in 08

I think they are also starting to say the same thing about Paplebon's arm - why his velocity is down

he throws ALOT more offspeed stuff, he used to justy blow people away with his fastball, but the hitters caught up to him, and they may be right.

The pitchers that seem to last longer use more of their body to generate the speed on the pitch, the smaller pitchers, and those with unothodox deliveries use alot more "arm" to generate that speed, which can be devastating to the ligaments

his fastball is usually about 91-92. Sometimes he can ramp it up to 94-95 but he seems to be just trying to mix pitches more.

Diekman on the other hand is just blowing hitters away. He's really done a 180 the last couple of weeks.

Actually since Sandberg took over, a lot of guys are looking promising. I can't say if its a coincidence or not but 2014 may not be a total loss if they can keep it up.
