that first game is gonna suck, they asked detroit to move the start time because they have a night game the day before and eetroit said no.

they will leave baltimore at say midnight-1, travel for a couple hours to detroit, get in 2-3 o'clock, and then have to be at the field by 10 at the latest for the game.

after check in and shit at the hotel, they will be lucky to get 3 hours of actual sleep before the game

it truly should have been a nigtht game with an afternoon game on friday if they wanted one and over the weekend.

I just don't understand how you can expect a team to be prepared for a agme a few hours after they played a game, never mind adding in plane travel and everything else.

i'm hoping for raging thunderstorms on thursday afternoon and them having to wait to reschedule the game in spetfuckingember

that is a tough schedule.

I'm surprised the player's union doesn't have a rule against that. Although I remember something about they do have to approve certain situations so maybe someone actually thought this was ok.

from waht i read detroit scheduled the game fr 1pm, the red sox asked them to change it, which they denied, then the red sox asked MLB, which has the power to change it but they also denied it.

it has something to do with a detroit lions preseason game a i think, they didn't want to interfere with that or go up against it.

The only excuse would be if the 2 stadiums are in the same place and share parking etc, not sure if they are, but that would the only reason they should have been allowed to do it.

annnd I googled it, it appears that comerica park is across the street from ford stadium, maybe that's why:judgy1:

the lions are playing the bengals at home this thursday, it must be the reason.

yeah i'm sure it would still casue some issues with parking and such and I can almost understand the reasoning behind it, maybe they should have tried for an afternoon game in baltimore instead.

they need that kind of distraction.

he isn't nearly the pitcher he used to be, the bullpen is already full of guys who pitch great1 night and then blow a lead the next.

at this point it needs to be who you have and whatever you can bring up sept 1st to bolster the bullpen, kelley and owens are as good as he is right now so why waste your time on someone who could blow up the clubhouse along with a game.

well they won, and i got my wish for rain....except it was in baltimore last night.


from what i heard on the radio the team arrived in detroit this morning at 6:15 AM our time, which is 5:15 their time

If they can win this game they got some heart, that has got to be tough.

they started in Boston on sunday, played in cleveland on monday, played in baltimore tuesday and wednesday and now are in detroit, thier fourth city since the weekend

that is nuts

we're getting killed by the Dodgers but we've had a bad run of luck injury wise - we're down a few pitchers.

this off season they really need to rebuild the bullpen from scratch. I think our starters will be ok, they just need to get some experience. I think they'll need to get a veteran starter though - the youngins are a little fragile it seems.

Yea, the monster road trip has started out well.

I'd love to see them win this game today. and at worst split with detroit.
take 3 or 4 in tampa and get back home with a bit of confidence.

the pitching has been pretty good and they are hitting again, hopefully they can keep it up.


Really it's just nice to be watching meaningful pressure filled games in late august, been a couple of years since games at this point meant anything

Bucholz is pitching today...

a crap shoot i know, but if we can get 5-6 innings out of him and score some runs we could be Ok. he has pitched much better as of late, but what happens when he has a guy on first is infuriating, if i was the pitching coach i'd tell him to forget the guy on first, let him steal if he wants don't even bother pitching out of the stretch just throw the ball and get the guy out at the damn plate

that's the third game in the last week and a half, all of the games they have lost, that they had the lead in the late innings and blew it

they have had a lead and blown it in either the 7th or 8th inning 6 times in the last 26 games

they need a sweep of the Rays and i'll be overjoyed about the road trip. at least 3-4 no excuses for anything less than that.

I'm pretty happy with the spilt, so far so good on the road trip,plus, they have to beat the Rays... I can't believe they won the series with Texas.

they should have won the damn first game in detroit but yes i'm happy so far. they really need to do well in tampa, it will make this trip a huge success if they do. they have kept pace with toronto and opened up some slim breathing room in the wild card but these next 4 could really help

Agreed, this should be an easy sweep, with 21 more to go on the road, they need as many easy ones as they can get. Also, they should win at least 12 of their final 16 at home to have a shot at the divison

i'm hoping for at least 22 more wins of the 37 left, that puts them at 92 wins and should be enough to get in the playoffs.

of course a 37 game winning streak would be fine

have you noticed he's pitching from the strech almost exclusively??

he started it in the bullpen and they have him pitching that way.

whatever they did, if he can keep it up it will be a great help.

7 wins so far on the road trip from hell, 2 more and they did better than I ever could have imagined.

however, I think it's that pressure to have to win every night that is keeping them going.


the schedule is tough, but knowing it's a playoff type game every night keeps the adrenaline flowing.

I am just happy that we are steaming into sept watching games that are important.

yes porcello pitched great, but he was near 100 pitches entering the inning, and in my opinion, you bring in ziegler for the 8th, and kimbrel for the 9th and you win that game.

and then to lose it on a stupid play that should have ended the inning is terrible.


they don't get blown out, they find a way to shoot themselves in the foot.

Of the last 5 games they have lost, 4 of them should have been wins, they were leading in the 8th inning of every one.

at least tronto lost too

well a split, but yeah I consider that a series loss when you split with the Rays.

another fantastic start from the pitching staff wasted.

also losing benintendi for most likely the rest of the season hurts too. he had given them a much needed spark.

I guess we will probably see Moncada next week when they expand the rosters, and maybe he can provide the spark.

It's gonna be a long stretch to get to the finish line, I think they are going to regret not doing more before the trade deadline.

the month of June, when they had planty of home games and played like crap hurt them. They just need to keep playin 600 or 650 baseball for the rest of the season and they should at least be in the mix for a playoff berth. I wish tronto would slow down. this series against KC is important, they have been playing great and are charging into the playoff race.

we need to knock them down.

Hoefully getting wright and EROD back in the rotation helps, though i don't know how the pitching could be much better than it has been.

they need a bullpen, which is a shambles right now and not used right when they need to.

they could have easily been 9-2 on that road trip if the right decisions were made in the 8th inning.

rough weekend against KC, hopefully they can bounce back with tampa.

KC has been hotter than any other team right now and it didn't surprise me but they need to win the next 3 and get back on track. The big issue is they are last in runs scored yet managed to rack up plenty against the sox over the weekend

Hopefully expanding the rosters will give them some options in the bullpen and in the lineup.
