they won't get anything to replace him, and that is the rreal issue. if you trade Lester, then there is ahuge hole in your rotation that needs to be filled, and what do you do?? go out and try to sign a different pitcher to take his place?? anyone close to him will cost you just as much, and then you have to hope he can perform in the firestorm of boston sports. otherwise what?? bring up someone like henry owens?/ who is no doubt good, but not ready for the majors yet. to me it's a stupid move, and creates more problems than it solves. you're not going to get a power hitter, because anyone you trade him to is going to be a team in contention and they are not going to sacrifice a power hitter to get a pitcher. power hitters are more scarce than pitchers right now.

| If Cherrington trades him, it's got to be considered as bad of a move as Texas trading Kinsler for Fielder. _________________ He is the Prince who was promised, and his is the song of Ice and Fire

| now's there's talk of lackey going too, which is not surprising either. they can get something for him, and the contract he has is going to cause issues next year if not re-done.
it's going to be interesting to see what happens between now and tomorrow afternoon.
of course, maybe nothing happens, but I really think the red sox need to make some serious moves here and at the end of the season and change the face of this team.
I'm willing to watch what's left of what has been a terrible season if they make changes to become the long term contender they think they should be with the youth and few key veterans

| Miller to Orioles for pitching prospect.
well that was an active trade day
should've gotten more than a propect for miller, but they did make some moves to improve the lineup.
now if they have any pitchers to fill out the rotation, they may have aqctually improved the team.
won't be long before ranaudo comes up to get a start, and owens moves up to AAA to see what he has.

| the media thinks that they made some good moves, and that the team is much better prepared to make a run at contention in 2015. some of the fans are unhappy, but i think they did pretty well.
they were going nowhere this year, and getting some major league pieces in the fold for next year will help. the big question is whether the pitching prospects can come through. there are going to be alot of young pitchers on the team next year, and they need to produce for this team to be a contender.
right now they have way too many outfielders, look for them to make some waiver deals to get rid of one or two.
the outfield should be JBJ in center, Cespedes in Right ( with that cannon of an arm) and probably craig in left.
that leaves victorino as a platoon guy, and nava and carp in the lurch.
They will get rid of carp before the waiver deadline, but what do you do with victorino??
I suppose of JBJ doesn't start hitting they can play him in center.
also, Biogarts will be at short, and probably middlebrooks at third, but where does Holt fit in??
you need his bat at leadoff, but they have nowhere to play him at the moment.
should be interesting watching what they do for a lineup the next few weeks
I would think the 3-4-5-6- batters are ortiz, craig napoli cespedes in some order, but we will see.
they had to do something, and cherrington has proven he isn't afraid to completely re-make a team to be a contender

| Yea, I am hopeful, Cespedes is a solid player, and they have him signed through next season, so at least he isn't a rental. Scherzer should be a FA next season and it doesn't look like he will sign with Detroit, so they better make a run at him and Lester, overall, I thnik we got some good pieces! _________________ He is the Prince who was promised, and his is the song of Ice and Fire

on another note, Craig is already hurt, and Bucholz appears to have had a flare up of the bard's syndrome again.
they had better make some serious noise in the off season.

| I read a post from someone on the sports website i read about the sox.
it said that he refers to the team as the "reigning world series champuion boston red sox" and it helps when he is disgusted with the team.
hard to believe that just 1 year ago at this time, the biggest problem the sox had was which one of the 6 starters they had is going to start, and if they could make it to 100 wins by the end of the season.
as of the trade deadline, the only pitcher from that rotation left is bucholz, and I don't think he was even playing yet last year from the damn stiff neck that plagued him for 4 months.

mlb rumors says there are "fairly significant" but not "major" names meanwhile, our GM has announced that we won't contend next year and probably not the next at this point even I think he needs to go - he's done absolutely nothing this season. 2 more seasons of this isn't going to fly. I think they had 10,000 in attendance last night. they need to move now before they run out of money. If it means dropping Howard then it must be done.
