so I guess all of the umpires who have touched the balls and placed them back on the line during the game were paid off to look the other way?

also - they tested game used balls, right? don't they deflate during the course of the game so being a little light now makes sense, right?

I just think this whole thing is ridiculous.

Where do you go to pay off an official? We want to play in the championship games too!

to me it just gives people who hate the "cheating" patriots another thing to harp on for the next 10 effin years. there's a million things that "could" have happened to the balls, and all of it should never have happened. also, i wonder if anyone checked the indy balls to make sure they were in line with what they should be?/

what if their balls were under or over inflated?/ it doesn't matter if you lose but if you win it does?/

aaron rodgers has admitted to having the balls that gren bay uses over inflated and hoping the refs don't catch it. like i said, why, if it's soo important, are the balls left to some flunky to be handled and not an official of the NFL afetr they are submitted and approved for use in the game?/

first they have to learn how to videotape the defense of the other team and how to let air out of balls, they have a few years before they will be superbowl ready tongue

I really don't think either of them help very much, it wasn't the fact that they were videotaping, it was WHERE they were videotaping from. and as far as the ball thing, to me it's a buncha shit that every team has done one way or the other and doesn't affect much of anything. both of them are instances where the league i am sure would rather have just not bothered with but when it was bought up they had to. kinda like a hockey player having too much curve on his stick, does it really matter that much to an outcome, probably not but if presented with it, the league is forced into a position they have to discipline whomever does it.

this clearly didn't affect the outcome - the cheating was in the first half. the carnage occurred in the 2nd after the balls were replaced

too much curve on the stick is a ploy coaches use late in a game after to get an extra timeout to rest their players
it doesn't generate mass media hysteria the next day

it would generate a ton more if they used it against a star player in a game 7 of the stanley cup, at least alot more than during a regular season game. if this had happened during game six of the NFL season to the jacksonville jaguars it would have been a blurb on the back of the sports section right next to a column by some clown who thinks he knows sports

the only reason it's such a big deal is because it happened during a playoff game by a team that is the most hated in the NFL to begin with

it does but its been years since a player has been challenged

most players today would have technically illegal sticks anyway

so what if a team decided to have all of a opposing teams sticks checked and they were all found out of specs, i wonder if the league would prefer not to hear it, but would be forced to do something about it in the way of fines and such, cuz that's basically what is happening here. it's something that has never been called out by anyone

sweet jeezus please PLEASE get past the air issue PLEASE i cannot stand another day of it.

Fergawd sakes it was a leading story on all the national 6PM news, is it really that important. at this point, I think the NFL is doing it on purpose to drum up even higher ratings for the SB. You can mark my words, this will easily be the most watched Tv program in the history of television next week. people who never watched a super bowl in their life ( all 4 of them) will be tuned in.

it is really ridiculous that they are making such a fuss over something that really doesn't matter.

today I saw that one of the Colts players did not notice anything wrong with the ball (don't remember where and now I don't see it)

I've also heard that these reports haven't been confirmed, although I can't confirm this smilingnerd

one of the radio stations around here put together a mash up of Brady's press conference talking about how he likes his balls - it was hysterical  lol   some guys like old balls, new balls, I don't like my balls rubbed, I don't expect anyone to handle my balls.

oh jesus facepalm    I didn't know it was the same guy.  I knew it was someone who caught an interception but I don't know how many they had

I love reading all the reader comments about how much they are turned off the NFL - like the domestic abuse by Ray Rice and child abuse by Adrian Peterson and dog abuse by Michael Vick wasn't enough to convince you but THIS - BALLGATE is what drives you away?

People are fucking morons but you already knew that.

really, letting air out of a ball is MORE serious than essentially contracting players to injure another player. REALLLLY!! facepalm

PostSubject: Re: NFL 2014   NFL 2014 - Page 5 EmptyFri Jan 23, 2015 2:34 pm

Our office has been conducting an investigation as to whether the footballs used in last Sunday’s AFC Championship Game complied with the specifications that are set forth in the playing rules. The investigation began based on information that suggested that the game balls used by the New England Patriots were not properly inflated to levels required by the playing rules, specifically Playing Rule 2, Section 1, which requires that the ball be inflated to between 12.5 and 13.5 pounds per square inch. Prior to the game, the game officials inspect the footballs to be used by each team and confirm that this standard is satisfied, which was done before last Sunday’s game.

“The investigation is being led jointly by NFL Executive Vice President Jeff Pash and Ted Wells of the law firm of Paul Weiss. Mr. Wells and his firm bring additional expertise and a valuable independent perspective. The investigation began promptly on Sunday night. Over the past several days, nearly 40 interviews have been conducted, including of Patriots personnel, game officials, and third parties with relevant information and expertise. We have obtained and are continuing to obtain additional information, including video and other electronic information and physical evidence. We have retained Renaissance Associates, an investigatory firm with sophisticated forensic expertise to assist in reviewing electronic and video information.

“The playing rules are intended to protect the fairness and integrity of our games. We take seriously claims that those rules have been violated and will fully investigate this matter without compromise or delay. The investigation is ongoing, will be thorough and objective, and is being pursued expeditiously. In the coming days, we expect to conduct numerous additional interviews, examine video and other forensic evidence, as well as relevant physical evidence. While the evidence thus far supports the conclusion that footballs that were under-inflated were used by the Patriots in the first half, the footballs were properly inflated for the second half and confirmed at the conclusion of the game to have remained properly inflated. The goals of the investigation will be to determine the explanation for why footballs used in the game were not in compliance with the playing rules and specifically whether any noncompliance was the result of deliberate action. We have not made any judgments on these points and will not do so until we have concluded our investigation and considered all of the relevant evidence.

“Upon being advised of the investigation, the Patriots promptly pledged their full cooperation and have made their personnel and other information available to us upon request. Our investigation will seek information from any and all relevant sources and we expect full cooperation from other clubs as well. As we develop more information and are in a position to reach conclusions, we will share them publicly.”

I wouldn't mind seeing Brady and Belicheck get another ring, I just typically pull for the NFC, plus the last 2 times I pulled for the Pats they lost, so it would be beneficial  to you if I don't. tongue

well i was close.

One of the better super bowls in a long time. also it was nice to see the seahawks lose in a way that will sting for a long time. How you throw that ball when you have the best running back that was nearly unstoppable is beyond me. if you're gonna throw, iyt is to the corner of the end zone where only your guy can catch the ball. great ending and a the patriots and tom brady have cemented themselves as the best team ever!!

IMHO that is. 6 times to the show in 14 years and 4 wins, with all the passing records and multiple MVP's,in the free agent era, it is hard to argue that he isn't the best ever.

I would say he is the best in this era hands down, I still rank Montana and Bradshaw higher, Joe in my opinion is the best of all time, you have to give Bradshaw a nod for calling his own plays

I loved the ending. And I really enjoyed Sherman's face when that interception happened. 55

And Brady jumping up and down like a little kid.

I was the only one rooting for them in my house. It's the only thing I won but John won $80 on one of his pools.

I would say he is the best in this era hands down, I still rank Montana and Bradshaw higher, Joe in my opinion is the best of all time, you have to give Bradshaw a nod for calling his own plays
monatana was good as was bradshaw, but they both had the advantage of having essentially the entire team togehter for the runs they made. the free agent era makes it harder, with brady constantly having different receivers and players on his team

also, it may not look it, but he calls plenty of his own plays. i still think he is better than both of them.

monatana would be the only one who comes close.

I still can't believe they threw the freakin ball there, nobody in their right mind would throw the ball there when you have timeouts left and the best damn running back that was basically unstoppable the entire game. and if you do throw, it's a loft to the corner of the endzone that nobody but your receiver can get near. you never NEVER throw a ball right to the middle of the field in a situation like that, pop warner coaches know that, high school coaches know that

every person watching, all 3 billion of them know that facepalm

Holy shit! The Eagles traded McCoy. They also are releasing 3 more players.

I hope chip knows what he's doing.

Alonso is a great linebacker though, you guys still have Sproles, I think it is a good trade for both teams.

The "experts" think we came out on top and admittedly McCoy isn't the threat he was so I can buy into the whole "his best days are in the past. It's shocking though. I don't know anything about the other guy. I heard he was hurt last year.
