| I am not defending Ray Rice, but he was already punished for his offense, I am surprised the players union hasn't went up in arms about him being suspended indefinitely now. And just last week they set the new guidelines for the punishment, so it still shouldn't be indefinite, at the most it should be 4 more games. _________________ He is the Prince who was promised, and his is the song of Ice and Fire

| It won't ever really matter until the owners of these teams stop giving out lucrative contracts to criminals, thugs whatever you want to call these guys. This unfortunately will blow over and he'll make millions more I'm sure. | |

| I don't think he'll play again, he is talented, but not talented enough to put up with the bullshit that will come with him signing with a team. the protests and publicity will be a factor.
If he was say aaron rodgers who did it ( not to say he ever would do anything like that ) he wouldn't have been released in the first place, he would go to rehab and be back with the team, but a 31 year old running back in a passing league, I think he might never play again.
there are too many yunger running backs that can do what he does that won't come with the baggage.
I agree he was already punished, but i'm saying the punishment should have been stronger from the start, unless noone saw the video, which again i have a real hard time believing.
They had the video of him outside the elevator, no way they didn't see the video inside it, which is pretty damning evidence.
the team and the NFL got caught with their pants down on this, for some reason thinking that the video would never come out.
They got put in a position that they had to do something to cover their ass, probably why Goodell came up with the new suspensions, hwe was probably told that the video would be coming out and had to make that statement before it did.
the players union won't defend him, they can't without looking like they condone the assault. the players themselves i think for the most part don't want him playing so he is on an island at the moment.

not that spitting is the same as a man hitting a woman but that's disgusting and does give her some responsibility in the matter

| fights are rarely one sided, usually the woman keeps pushing buttons and at times can even be the aggressor, to me there is NO EXCUSE, no man hits a woman like he hit her, not ever.
punch the wall, grab her arms and hold her down, whatever you want, you do not haul off and throw a left cross that would have taken down sugar ray leonard, you just do not do it under any circumstances.

I really find it hard to believe that they didn't. they have alot more resources to find out information about this kind of thing than TMZ does, they have whole floors of investigators and ex cops and lawyers, i would find it impossible to fathom that did not have access to this tape, if not immediately, certainly before TMZ got it. I think the only reason goodell came out with the new policy is that he found out that TMZ was going to release the tape and he better do something before it becomes public.

| he'll get fired if the sponsors start turning on the league. as long as the money keeps coming in the owners won't fire him, but if it comes out that he knew about this tape and still gave a 2 game suspension, I believe the sponsors and owners will turn on him and he will be fired. | |

| how did they find out in the first place if they didn't see the tape? or is it just the actual punch that is causing this ruckus? I remember reading how the Ravens's staff and coaches were praising Rice's behaviour since the "incident" so they knew something a while ago.
on another note, how much more of this video is there that there's still more coming out?

from what I have heard, it is a pretty bad situation too, I don't have a problem with parents using corporal punishment, frankly not enough of them do as far as I am concerned, but leaving welts on a 4 year old that are visible a week later, stuffing leaves in the kid's mouth, having a separate room in your house for punishment??/ I think he may have taken it a bit far.

I think he may have taken it a bit far. the pictures were pretty brutal - that's not normal punishment for a 4 year old you should just give a smack on the ass with your hand

wasn't the best week for the shield last week, that's for sure. the part that bothers me is Peterson doesn't seem to think he did anything wrong. he has a right to discipline his kids, but he went way past that as far as I'm concerned, and from what i heard it was over something pretty small to begin with. Just wait until the rest of his kids tell someone what he has done to them. he should be toast, but he is a whole different story than Rice, he's a major star, and MVP, and a "face" of the league.

the team is gonna make the league make a decision, which they haven't been really good at. like I said, if he was a third string RB, they wouldn't have reinstated him so fast, they would have waited until the league told them what to do.

yeah but then they reinstated him, even after he admitted to hitting the kid and drawing blood. They have had 2 other players involved in domestic violence, one was suspended for 10 games, until he was found innocent, the other was released. I think they may ultimately suspend him again, they have lost radison hotels as a sponsor, and I suspect that more will follow. They will be pushed financially until they do something. Like I said, i don't have a problem with corporal punishment, but he went way too far, the kid was 4, and a couple swats on his ass with an open hand would have been more effective than whipping him til he bleeds.

But he did move them downfield in a hurry when he had to.

He should have been suspended the minute this story came out.
